An introduction
A beginning is the time for taking the most delicate care...
But then if that phrase by written by Irulan, does that make it true anymore What I do know is that I've been a fan of the writings of Frank Herbert for about 25 years now, largely due to the way in which he makes you extend yourself and your knowledge base while reading. After discovering Dune in the mid-eighties I devoured virtually everything he wrote, though still have to get to The Whipping Star and Hellstrom's Hive, and even enjoyed the flawed cinematic interpretation of David Lynch - and so when it was announced that Brian Herbert, together with Kevin J. Anderson, were to create new novels in the Dune Universe I was looking forward to them. To say I was bitterly disappointed in the House trilogy would be an understatement - in fact I found them a badly edited, ill-thought-out travesty - and have sworn off anything they've created since. As John Malkovic says to Clint Eastwood in In the Line of Fire - "You show me some goddamn respect" - and that's the thing that gets my ire about these continuing monstrosities, the absolute and total lack of respect for what was written in Frank's original novels. Where's the gratitude? Where's the love?
This post is getting too long, so I'll just say 'hello' and shut up. I probably won't be a prolific poster here, as I have way too many other interests as well, but my love for Frank's writing is genuine - Is yours, Brian and Kevin?

Welcome, twice welcome.

“This tutoring is dialectical. Literature makes us better noticers of life; we get to practice on life itself; which in turn makes us better readers of detail in literature; which in turn makes us better readers of life. And so on and on.” - James Wood

If by 'the wrong place' you mean the much-maligned Byron clusterfuck - then no, I've been spared that, other than a casual browse and giggle in recent days. I actually found this place through Amazon.com, equally maligned it seems because of their practice of accepting 5-star reviews from illiterate retards and deleting well thought out demolition jobs on McDune. As I've already stated, haven't read anything since the House Trilogy, and wanted to know just what the 'Brothers Tossclump' had been doing to the Dune Universe. I've no idea if Ronald Craig and Artis are here in some form or other, but it was their withering attacks on the recent books that brought this place to my attention. Thanks for everyone's words of welcome, it's appreciated.A Thing of Eternity wrote:Welcome, you've come to the right place! (probably found us through the wrong place I assume? )

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.
