Re: Simon's Sketches
Not likely. I haven't been down to Tokyo in ages. And have no plans to visit in the foreseeable future. (Probably three or four years since I was there? ... OK, it's four: I just checked the date on a concert I went to and it was in February 2005.)
I don't much like big cities, actually. Tokyo is a heady high for a few hours, but then the pressure of swimming through the psychic excreta of millions really starts to wear on you. I could never live there.

Nope. Wasn't blaming you guys for my failing to specify (did I ever post anything, anywhere, that said "Look! See!" lol). I just figured the image would speak for itself. It's clearly very McGoo. (BTW, the pastel world was meant to be a "soft" planet, similar to, though not Kaitain. Basicly something to contrast Dune, where we knew a bulk of the story would take place.)
My fault for not specifying, sorry about that.

Word.
I'm looking forward to this being a full comic. Hopefully the (suppossedly) planned Dune graphic novel won't cause the Herberts to "dissapear" your artwork like they did with the fan film.

Thanks GamePlayer, finally learned how to get rid of those tell-tale scanner streaksGamePlayer wrote:I like it! Very nice.
I was wondering that myself when I first heard about them last year (I don't think they'll "disappear" my art, but very likely could ask me to stop, or at least take out the dialogue). I can't imagine they'll let me complete it, considering things from a buisness angle. As it stands that's been a major factor in the reduction of pages on that project. I don't want to get to much done only to find out I can't even display it anywhere.A Thing of Eternity wrote:Word.

As for this page, it's not even part of the comic. I've been trying to work up a worthy submission for the board layout, but as yet haven't come up with a cool concept. This fremen attack was just a by-product of artist block . I really liked MassBlack's color stuff, and thought that image (or something similar) would work great within the framing. I really admired how the space in the middle wasn't forced (or didn't feel that way to me at least lol). I'm apparantly not much of a "Landscape guy" (which is what I've been trying for, a desert eye view of Jacurutu). My two sketches thus far were more "blah" than "AAAAHHHH!"

This weekend, between cutting grass, installing an electric, tankless hot water system and taking the kids to baseball, I'll try to make you a sketch of what I have in mind.

Re: Simon's Sketches
alright, not bad, as long as you don't take the crayons to it.
stillsuits still look like stormtrooper armor.
it's not anything approaching Art, but atleast it
didn't make me unreasonably angry, so that's progress.
and I say fuck the HLP, finish the project and post it
all here. or if Freak is scared, I've got a place for it.

Re: Simon's Sketches
I like the rediculous muscle armour stillsuits. I know it's not what FH had in mind, but it looks too damned cool and fits with the fremen "complete warrior" vibe so well. That and the 3 jawed sandworms (but not that new painter's, his suck), I know they're wrong, but they're cool.

Re: Simon's Sketches
I like the functional appearance of the "armor" look. Just a personal asthetic prefrence I guess...
Gotta say it does seem more Stormtroopery in black and white though.
Here are some color scheme pages we'd done when we were finalizing our versions look:
(this Fremen was actually "in the distance" and very small on the original page, hence the lack of detail.)
(this was the original page all the computer color stuff was based on.)

Re: Simon's Sketches
Simon, I think your art would benefit if you showed the eyes more often. As it is that one figure in the front looks dead already. I know he is about to bite the big one, but I think it would be more interesting if you captured better his moment right before death. I cant really see that if the eyes are hidden.

Re: Simon's Sketches
Ya know.. - I think he's right. All of them - especially gimp-mask-goggle-man, are pretty de-humanised. And the moment you've chosen to show kills a lot of the tension (again with special mention to goggle bloke) the scene could have had.
Still a lot to like though
