Good to be in the complany of like-minded individuals!
Hello all! My name is Joe, aka Talos (sorry Talos Aquinas, thought I was the only Greek Mythology buff lol!)
I've been a huge Dune fan ever since discovering it about 8-9 years ago when I saw House Atreides on the shelf at a local bookstore. As much as I dislike the hacks I do have to thank them for introducing me to the wonderful world of Dune; I doubt I would have found it if HA hadn't occupied such a prominent display spot at Barnes & Noble. I read the originals first to keep everything in context and it was love at first read. I remember being so excited to read the House trilogy, the upcoming Legends trilogy, and the long awaited series conclusion. I was, of course, quite disappointed with the outcome of the prequels but I just brushed it off without much thought. I compared it to the original Star Wars and it's often contradictory and laughable "expanded universe." I thought I was the only dissatisfied customer. Boy was I wrong. It wasn't until suffering through Hunters and Sandworms that I became truly infuriated (and don't even get me started on PoD, I think that's been covered well enough here.)
Anyways, I've been lurking around for a few weeks catching up on some of the older discussions, many of which had me in stiches, and I want to thank you guys for creating a place to honor the true leagacy of my favorite author.
It's good to be home.

} not as dramatic as the darkred on black, but ....
I can't find the darker orange to match the 610 color -
that orange font is FF8040. Higher is too light, and lower
is too red. and while the orange may be "Dunesque",
only in the daylight. for me, Dune was always dark and
moonswept, hiding in the cliff shadows and darkened

Hi Talos, welcome.
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hypatia approaches one.

Welcome, Welcome.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

It shows remarkable self control in reading the originals before the 'quels and I'm glad you did. Allthough I hate to give KJA any possitive press, I'm happy you found Frank Herbert's books.
