Re: DUNE Stuff
found website called deviant art http://www.deviantart.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
if you type in the search box "dune" comes up with all kinds of original art, very cool stuff I think:
examples:
redo and tribute to lynch film:
http://pascalblanche.deviantart.com/art ... -120078351" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Alia original:
http://napalmnacey.deviantart.com/art/S ... e-47453199" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Just found it pretty cool.

Re: DUNE Stuff
lol. You just found DA? Probably the biggest amateur/professional art site out there...
I've done some browsing for Dune-related stuff there before, but unfortunately most of it is movie-based. You can find a lot of original renditions, though, and some are personal favorites.

Re: DUNE Stuff
I had never heard of it until my middle son joined there. He doesn't do anything Dune related though.
Of course I'm bias but I think he's drawings are neat, strange but neat.
The thing I am leary about with Deviant Art is that I see nothing to prevent someone from stealing the artist's work and presenting it as their own.

Can't say I'm any different, even though I'm surprised trang just found it. I regularly find "common" things out just recently, since I'm utterly disconnected from fads of any kind.Eyes High wrote:I had never heard of it until my middle son joined there. He doesn't do anything Dune related though.
It happens, but there is a "report stolen" option. I've seen many occasions when someone was reported and taken care of quickly... It's the Internet. Big place, but not private. People catch onto you eventually. Especially if you're stealing anything worth being seen.Eyes High wrote:The thing I am leary about with Deviant Art is that I see nothing to prevent someone from stealing the artist's work and presenting it as their own.

Yeah DeviantArt is rad. I don't submit anything, but I am at that place at least twice a month just looking around.
Speaking of Dune stuff, I was just looking at the figures on Ebay the other night from the movie. Freaking 50 bucks they want for those things.

No, it was the first likely result google popped up for a "dune record" search. I think it's some dance shite from 2000.Omphalos wrote:Is that the old Dave Matthews Dune interpretation? Full sets go for a lot. So do "Brand New in Packaging" ones - but there's no point getting one still in the box - makes it harder to play withArrrmanda wrote:Yeah DeviantArt is rad. I don't submit anything, but I am at that place at least twice a month just looking around.

Re: DUNE Stuff
a very minor advertisement for Dune, but heck anything is better than nothing.
On the CBS comedy show "The Big Bang Theory" the episode on 11/16 started out with 3 of the 4 main characters out camping to watch the Meteor shower event. They had set up a sat dish to pick up tv feeds to watch until the shower, when they tuned into the east coast feed, Lenerd says "hey look its DUNE!!"(Lynch Version I presume).. they sit back and watch, ... raj says " not a particularly good movie, but dam, what a beautiful desert" then they switch back.

Re: DUNE Stuff
Sorry not around as much, just busy in RL. Been playing WOW again with girlfriend and while leveling my rogue I ran across this monstor on a quest and the reward were a hilarious homage to franks's work. Pictures migh might be large so sorry.
The "sopranos" under my characters name is my girlfriends guilds name, I just joined and had no choice in the name, Silly I know, what the hell. FYI im a level 71 gnome rogue on server misha. This quest is in the Bone Wastes south of Terrorkar Forest/Shatterah City. You can get the quest from the dwarfs after you escort them to a dig site and back to the Dranei camp, which is where all these quests are, the SW corner of the area.
? This quest is in the Burning Crusade expansion which is a few years old, wonder if they had to go thru the HLP to get approval to use the references?
Sand Gnomes!!
the worm I killed is named Hai' Shulud!! it might be hard to see but its name is in the upper section slightly left, corpse, Priceless.
the reward was a dagger named Dib' Muad's Crysknife!!! again might be hard to see, will see if I can work on pictures and enhance.
Have fun, Be well
The Spice must flow...

Is he riding a griffin in that last pic?

Re: DUNE Stuff
yep, the burning crusade expansion introduced flying mounts.. griffins were the first, they have all kinds of stuff now, dragons, etc. My gnome is an engineer and can make a aircraft.. ruins the fantasy side of it but again, what the hell.
Its just fun.

Nice find though.
And no, I've not played WoW (or any MMO) either.

Re: DUNE Stuff
we need a direct address to the HLP's lawyers - I'd say send this stuff to Merritt and try to stir the pot,
but Merritt would forget, and Kim would delete the emails - or use the caps for her wallpaper ....
I'd like to see as many heavy-handed moves by the HLP's lawyers as possible - they shut down a whole "world"
based on dune in some other MMO game awhile back; came off looking that the retarded, money-grubbing asswipes
they are ... the more people outside the loop on this whole thing that get handled hard by the HLP the better ...

Very nice, one of my online friends who is 31 years old saw the movie in theaters when he was 4 years old and had the Dune toys and coloring books.
