Why no Honored Matres forum?
I noticed that you have forums for all the big factions in the original 6 Dune novels, but there is no forum for the Honored Matres, who were pretty big player in the last two novels (I'm not counting the table scrap by KJA).
Please add a forum for the lovely ladies too?

I've always thought of them as an off-shoot of the Bene Gesserit, I'm not sure there's that much discussion to be had about them.
I'll consider it, I think there's a lot of forums already though.

FS and BG ancestry.
But I think they're relatively a minor faction in the Duniverse(in terms of space in the books), much like the FS or great noble houses, and those don't get a forum of their own(why the Ixians ever got their own forum is byond me).

Aren't the noble houses included in the Landsraad section?orald wrote:FS and BG ancestry.

Yea, but my point was that you could make a stand-alone Harkonnen, Corrino etc forum. Since Ix seems, according to Freak, to be actually our "Duniverse Tech" forum I get why it's seperate.
Otherwise Ix should be part of the landsraad.

Ix wasn't part of the Landsraad, Neither were the Bene Tleilax. That's how they escaped the "more severe effects of the Butlerian Jihad".orald wrote:Yea, but my point was that you could make a stand-alone Harkonnen, Corrino etc forum. Have I ever referenced the DE? No.orald wrote:According to whom, the DE? I don't put much stock in the DE.
And what about Richese? Is it out of the landsraad too according to your source?
According to Dune Messiah, the Ixians had their own confederacy. They are never mentioned by FH as "House Ix" or anything of the sory.
I believe Richese is mentioned somewhere as being a Great House, I'd have to check.

I think they're a great house too, that's why I asked.
I've never thought of Ix being a confederacy to mean they're not part of the landsraad, only to mean they don't have their nobles but more of a democratic system, or probably a directorate like in companies.
They're not mentioned in the landsraad, but so are other houses I believe.
We don't really get that many detailing on the inner workings and members of the landsraad.
The landsraad is like the UN, it just represents the forces at play, most of whom are houses great and small, it doesn't mean all of them have to be feudal structures.

The Landsraad is an assembly of the Great Houses, I assume that if you are not a Great House then you're not in the Landsraad. The Landsraad couldn't enforce the Butlerian Jihad on those planets for that reason.
BTW, I can't find any mention of Richese being ruled by a Great House either. They are only mention in Dune's Terminology as being like Ix.

This is interesting, do you have a quote?Freakzilla wrote:The Landsraad is an assembly of the Great Houses, I assume that if you are not a Great House then you're not in the Landsraad. The Landsraad couldn't enforce the Butlerian Jihad on those planets for that reason.

I always thought the enforcement came from cultural forces.
Did the Landsraad actually enforce regulations developed as a result of the Butlerian Jihad?

I wouldn't say it if I couldn't back it up. We recently discussed this in another topic. I'll try to find it later.Bijaz wrote:This is interesting, do you have a quote?Freakzilla wrote:The Landsraad is an assembly of the Great Houses, I assume that if you are not a Great House then you're not in the Landsraad.
