Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

The HLP does not set the price of ebooks. Whenever ebook rights are purchased by a company, they set the price. Since Dune Messiah is a fairly 'new' release in terms of its re-release in hardcover and several other formats, this ebook is more expensive. The price will come down with time just as the price of the House series has dropped with time since they've been out in ebook format for some time. FYI.

It sure would be nice to have a copy without all the scanned OCR typos, but not for $30.orald wrote:Wait, you mean an ebook like my, umm, PDF file of DM, that came for free(well, I do have to pay for my internet provider in general)?

Does the HLP get a percentage of each book sold over time, or a flat fee no matter what the publisher is charging?Spice Grandson wrote:The HLP does not set the price of ebooks. Bit random and i only just noticed it......... but in the first paragraph it says about how the man was born and "Christened" Muad'dib.
Christened? Jews weren't the only ones to survive the All super-ninja-wizard-killer-robots of death.
And yeah, I'd like to know what % cut the HLP gets from each dune-related sale?
Or even a typical author for that matter. I mean, JK Rowling is the richest woman in britain (or one of, barring Lizzie of course), but is that because of volume of sales? or did she do some hardcore negotiating to keep 95% of the cover price?

Well, they do call it the Orange Catholic Bible, you know.loremaster wrote:Bit random and i only just noticed it......... but in the first paragraph it says about how the man was born and "Christened" Muad'dib.

Though I believe the word "christened" is there only in the "giving a name" sense. I'm not sure what other English word there is for such a procedure except of course "naming", but the later is too...general for it.
In memory of Perach, who suffered and died needlessly.
I wish I could have been with you that one last time.

Interesting...I can't imagine what catholisim has to do with those defenition("having sympathies with all; broad-minded; liberal"? ), but I've always understood the OCM to be influenced partly by Christianity too, along all the other religions, and that that's where it got its name, though I guess both this view and those defenitions you mentioned could be the reason together.
So, what does the Orange stand for?

I always thougth that the Orange in Orange Catholic came from the reunification of Protestants and Catholics (which would mean that the term "catholic-with-a-lowercase-c" means a real flesh-eating, blood-drinking Catholic, not a fop-about-towne), as "orange" was the color of the Protestants from Bill of Orange, their patron-on-earth.
Seriously, those definitions are completely new on me. I guess I never saw reason to look up the word "Catholic" before, and I seriously doubt that is what FH had in mind. Really, did the First Church of the Epicureans have a delegation at the C.E.T.? Were they responsible for the catering?

I would imagine it's possible that FH chose the name because it works on many levels.
Catholic comes from the Latin catholicus, from Greek katholikos "universal", from kata "with repsect to" + holos "the whole".
Zensunni Catholicism is therefore ambiguous...is it a mixture of Zen + Sunni + Catholic Christian beliefs...or just some sort of Pan-Zensunni one?
The use of "christened" seems really off. Sigh.

Or they just didn't sell? usually when an item sells well ( like the game TheSims2 ) it will continue to be sold for the original price. When the interest ( if any ) starts to diminish the sales people will have to lower the price. Basic economics Byron ... don't let yourself be fooled ... sorry, I realize you are already fooled many times by KJA. Did he had a say in the release of the Chronicles as E-books?
Second question .. a repeat one I think. Did the HLP sell the rights for "printing the e-books" for a fixed price or a percentage of the sales?

is there anything rob doesnt have a smiley for?
By the way, i only just noticed the thread title said ebook.
No joke.
After reading the price my mind just assumed the word it had read prior to that was "Audiobook".
I think that pretty much sums this up.
