It would be interesting to learn where he stole the idea from. ;)
I don't remember a passage in the DE where an insufferable hack hijacked Irulan's book series and... OH.... ;)

OH ... indeed.

He steals from far and wide, not just the DE. ;)

So, we should just declare his works Out-of Universe texts?

Badly written, conceived and researched fan fiction. That's the best I'd give them. :snooty:

But they are on the best sellers list. That means they must be good because the sell so well right?

As proof we have the fact that Bud is the best selling beer, and craft is the best selling cheese, and wonder is the best selling bread, and over a billion served at McDonalds must mean that the big mac is the best tasting food item of all time.

Ah swell, there's nothing like an unbiased opinion, and this is NOTHING LIKE an unbiased opinion. How refreshing.

I'd love to read Byron's take on how Frank Herbert would react (were he alive today) to his own son's dilution of his masterpiece and the impact its had on his legacy. An honest take.

Honesty is hard to come by when a whole bunch of money is dumped onto your lap.

Or when you've sold your soul.

Brian Herbert passed the "what would dad think" milestone a long time ago. He didn't just decide to publish some notes, or a Road to Dune-type project, or maybe collaborate with a hack on one new Dune book. No, he's an active participant in this unspeakable annual devaluation and mockery of the original series. He and his hack buddy have managed to turn a classic work of literature into a big joke.

Frank would be horrified. And he'd certainly feel betrayed.

Frank would say "Well done, my boys" whilst speaking from a giant cake before inflicting everyone who ate it with a severe case of the squits. Unless Jabecca inhaled that whole cake before anyone else got to it.

Bobo is clearly a spineless wimp. Didn't his own father tell him to get a fucking grip or get some counselling over his ridiculous fear of flying?

Oh, but remember that Byron always claimed it wasn't as much money as everyone seemed to think! :naughty:

And that kinda makes sense, when you consider that besides him & Brian there are nine other do-nothing Herbert/Merritts scrabbling for their piece of the pie.
TheDukester wrote:Frank would be horrified. And he'd certainly feel betrayed.
Oh, PSHAW! Frank would weep tears of joy because at least he was reconciled with Number One Son!

Or at least that's how Brian would write it. Probably with Kevin's help.

OH GAWD NO! Meaning even MORE McDune books?!

Yes, according to Brian, he did. (Maybe that's one of those details supposed to convince us that the rest is true? "Look at the brutal honesty of the thing! He doesn't even hold back in describing his father's criticism of him!")

Kinda puts a nice point on it, no? ;)

he'd probably give him a good bollocking like any father that realizes his spineless wimp of a son associated himself with the likes of the hack...

I believe his "fear of flying" is just a gimmick, you know like all those genius artist that have often some kind of weird habit to go with all that talent
Bri just shows again his poor understanding of "talent" by actually tackling the issue the other way round(but what would you expect from a guy who takes his cue from KJA and his krew  )

:rolls in laughter:
I can't even believe how serious people take Brian's work. Perhaps I should read further before I make any official judgements but The Race for God was not a hook and reel novel. I haven't even finished it. He just couldn't find a proper ledge to draw people in with it outside of this preachy social idealism of a universal concept of god. Did he major in some sort of social anthropology? I felt like this novel was a cough up of everything he studied in that sort of class room setting.

Brian Herbert majored in Bong Hits @ Berkley ....

I guess he was a "successful" insurance agent,
but I'm not sure how that's measured ...

That's measured in anthologies of amusing insurance claims stories.

Yes, his major was in Social Anthropology. He got a BA: Booze Addiction.

Weakling.
