That's all I meant, really. I think both movies went out of their way to differentiate the Fremen - and the entire Dune universe - from middle-eastern culture when I think it's fairly clear that they should do the opposite.

Baraka Bryan wrote:Paul's black eyes were to demonstrate them getting burned out by the stoneburner.
I know, but they don't look burned out, they look like they've turned black. When Paul sees the Guildsmen's eyes at the end of the novel, he says they are so blue they're almost black due to spice addiction. It's a crap special effects job, since his eyes clearly don't look burned out, but if they'd done something similar for the eyes of Ibad, they'd have been on the right track.
Baraka Bryan wrote:they were blue before that...
Yes...glowy, crappy, rotoscoped blue that isn't apparent in indoor light. That's not what Frank Herbert wrote. My point is that eyes should look like Paul's at the end of the first episode of the CoD miniseries, except blue.
Baraka Bryan wrote:interestingly though, in the scene at the beginning of the CoD mini the kid that is exposed to a stoneburner actually loses his eyes.. bit of an inconsistency there.
Yep.

I've always gotten the impression from Frank's description that the whites of your eyes become bluish. You know how when your eyes get irritated and they look red and all the veins are red? Well I think if you imagine all that red being bluish instead you'd be thinkin' the right way about the eyes of a spice addict.

I don't think he says anything about glow in the dark eyes. That wouldn't exactly help the Fremen stay hidden under cover of darkness, would it!

[Rebecca's] eye sockets still ached from transplants the Rabbi had given her less than a month ago. These eyes showed a blue iris and white sclera, no clue to the Spice Agony in her past. It was a temporary defense. In less than a year, the new eyes would betray her with total blue.
The sclera (white of the eye) definitely turns blue. I assume the iris does as well. Otherwise "blue-in-blue" doesn't make a lot of sense.

Also, wouldn't glowing eyes interfere with your night vision? ;)

Completely agree. Besides, Glowing eyes are stupid.

I still think they should spend the money on some realistic contact lenses. It would be nice to actually see the tangible wetness of their blue-in-blue eyes.

It's a Rowdyruff Boy. So yes, PPG... But I'm liking this direction of berg is taking the movie. Very clever, in subtle but blunt kind of way.
