My favorite show right now is Spartacus: Blood and Sand. At first I just liked it for the hot naked men, but soon I realized it is quite good... plus the hot naked men :)

you beat me to it!
we might not like it for the same reason but it is quite good indeed, a good antique tragedy with boobs and 300 style slomo fights! (and unrealistic accents)

the guy playing spartacus has been diagnosed with some form of cancer and the show's next season has been delayed...

Yeah, he has the same cancer the guy who plays Dexter has. I hope we don't have to wait too long for season two (that sounds kinda heartless but I don't want him to die, lol).

Spartacus has been pretty good, though the pilot was atrocious. It was trying too hard to be like 300 with the slo-mo and blood; I'm glad it's found a better balance. I think lotek and I like the show for the same reasons...

BOOBIES!

Freakzilla wrote:Has anyone watched Ugly Americans?
'tis a bit strange, that one, so I guess it's only natural that I like it!

yeah I had the same reaction with the pilot, but as the storyline unraveled and the plans within plans started to kick in it started to become more interesting(and of course the boobies kept my attention in the meantime)

It seems it is trying to follow the "real" spartacus' life, and I always like to see a historical show that is really trying to be one.
(Gladiator anyone???)
My girlfriend likes it too but she never mentionned boobies or blood fights ;)

And I am now trying to see what that Ugly Americans is about, sounds interesting:
Ugly Americans is an American animated television series developed by David M. Stern and created by Devin Clark. The series focuses on Mark Lilly, social worker at the Department of Integration, in an alternate version of New York City with monsters and other creatures

Oh, fuck me with a giant hummingbird on the plane to Nazca.

History is so full of shit these days, I only watch it if I'm in the mood to laugh and jeer and throw things at the tube.

But evidently they mention FH & Dune, right?

At least that's what that KJA-cyberfellator David James has posted over on The Dune Saga wall on Facebook.

(Another BRILLIANT PREEQ thread over there is "Ideas for who to cask for the movie?"

Well, I'd suggest BRIAN HERBERT. He's always up for a kegger, I imagine! :laughing-rolling: )

Yeah, the history channel has some pretty dubious shit on. Discovery gets a bit out there sometimes, but History seems to visit Wingnut Central on a regular basis.

I think I might've replied to this thread already, but I also like Lie to Me. Waiting for the next season.

Still watching House. Yes, it's getting repetitive, but Hugh Laurie is consistently good enough to keep me watching, and you get an occasional truly outstanding show.

Started watching Spartacus, but got bored. Every episode had to have the obligatory two blood-gushing fight scenes, the obligatory two softcore porn scenes, and just enough plot development to try to justify all the gratuitous violence and sex. Torres from Lie to Me *did* get nekkid, though, of which I thoroughly approve.

Regarding Spartacus, the beginning is kinda bad, but if you press on you may actually like it (unlike a certain set of authors). Sure, the violence and sex is over the top. I think the series takes a turn for the better when Spartacus and Crixus fighter Theokules.

Thanks for pointing out that Torres is in Spartacus. I knew Naevia looked familiar.

EDIT:
Damn you HBJ, you confused me!  Monica Raymund plays Torres on Lie to Me and Lesley-Ann Brandt is Naevia on Spartacus (well, on Crixus actually ).

Lesley gets my vote!

And i concur, Spartacus starts.. well like a tv spin on Gladiator, and some details(Batiatus/John Hannah's accent for example)can put you off for a moment.
But a quick search shows they did try to follow the original story of Spartacus, and the character development alongside with the thickening of the plot makes for quite an addictive watch.
Got through the first season in a few days and was left hoping for more!

Well, shoot. Coulda sworn they were the same actress.

I guess we won't be seeing any Spartacus/lie to me crossovers, then.

Anyone else watching Treme on HBO? It's a great show, so far.

Treme? Isn't that some sort of ancient Greek slave ship? :P

I just finished the whole series ... and I was really pleasantly surprised. I'll go so far as to say it was actually sort of good.

It started slowly, yes. Not because I wanted to see arena scenes right away, but because I didn't care about any of the characters. But something changed around the third episode; I really did start to care about the characters' fortunes. Maybe the writing got subtly better; I haven't checked the writing credits to see in there's any differences.

As far as the violence goes, I was able to see it in comic book terms. It's so far over the top (no one has that much blood in their body, for one thing) that it becomes just another film-making device. It's hokey, yes, but I was able to get past it.

Plus, the whole thing was risk-free for me; I just streamed it for free with Netflix. I figured I could always just abandon ship with no harm done.

I wish it was here. I was hopeful after The Universe started and it looked like they were moving away from all Hitler and Jesus all the time, and then they got into a bunch of UFO hunter shit. They've got limitless topics for which to do shows, but they focus on the whack-jobs who see conspiracy everywhere. I'd rather see a TV version of HEREafter.

You mean to say that you prefer watching UFO hunter shit stuff ... which of course is all true, all the way ... to perhaps thought provoking historic items about at least one historic person?

PS: My provider doesn't have this HI channel in its package.

I mean to say that aside from The Universe, History Channel is shit and rarely has anything to do with history. I wish I had HI to see what it's all about.
