Apparently it's not. After you mentioned hairlip, I looked it up on the wikipedia and it says Joaquin's actually healed while he was in the womb. If it's on the wikipedia, it MUST be trueDrunken Idaho wrote:I always assumed it was a hairlip scar.
In fact, not too long ago we were discussing the same scar when someone mentioned Joaquin Phoenix as a good candidate to play Duncan Idaho. I pondered if that would be a good idea, considering the serial gholas would all have the same scar, and we weren't sure if a cleft pallette would repeat or not.
But now, after seeing this, I'm not sure if I want him anywhere near a Dune film.
OK man!Nekhrun wrote:Yeah, it does kinda sound like I want some of that.Omphalos wrote:Careful, Nekhrun. You don't want any of this. Dave of Joachim?Omphalos wrote:Did anyone else see Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman tonight? Hilarious!
At one point Letterman asked Phoenix a few leading questions to get him to talk about what he was doing now that he no longer acts. Phoenix managed to grumble out that he would like to do some of "his music" on the show, and Letterman said "Well, that seems unlikely, doesn't it?"
Phoenix was playing some strange game, acting like he was a brain-damaged moron, and Letterman was taking pot-shots at him all night. Phoenix got all uppity and stuck his gum under Letterman's desk. Letterman ended the night by saying "Shame you couldn't be here tonight, Joachim."
He came off like a real asshole.
Really? Sounds pretty elaborate, I hope it makes a good moc.Baraka Bryan wrote:GamePlayer wrote:Yeah, there's something feeshy going on about all this. there are rumours that he was in character for an upcoming mockumentary and they were using his appearance on Letterman to get some good footage for it.
That is correct, sir.SandRider wrote:this is River's brother, right ?

And I would have gotten away with it too, if weren't for you medling news hounds and your drug connections!GamePlayer wrote:Yeah, there's something feeshy going on about all this. Well then, I hope so, because I admire his work and he is/was an excellent actor.Tleszer wrote:Seems like an elaborate prank to me. His appearance on Letterman was hilarious.
*Willem Dafoeorald wrote:I hate it when people mention Gladiator as a movie this or that actor/ess played in to make them look good. It's was a mediocre movie at best in regards to performances. Not sure what were the other things great in it either.
The reason I'm mentioning this, apart from Phoenix being in it and it being mentioned at the start of the thread, is that I've been preparing today's newspapers at work(the night shift get them at about 2 AM and prepers them for the morning) and on each one there was an ad for some new Jeoff Goldblum movie(something with a Holocaust survivor in it) and among others, Derek Jacoby.
And what did they put in the little brackets beneath his name and image? Yep, "Gladiator".
I can ignore the fact that Geoff is summed up as "Jurassic Park", even William Depo(sp?) as "Spiderman"(a shame really for such a fine actor), but Jacoby, who played a rather obscure supporting role in that movie has to be summed in that manner? Shameful, that's what it is.
And to me, Derek is always remembered first and foremost as Claudius("I, Claudius").
