Smellhole opens its orifice to the UK in October, the US is spared a full four months, not getting it until February next year. Is there precedent for this with former McDune novels, as it seems mighty strange to me?

Hellhole is off to a very slow start here in the states, not that you'll ever hear Keith admit it. The date slipping to February is a fairly new development, and also a bit of a strange one. After all, they've been done with it for weeks now (not that it took them more than a few days to "write" it in the first place, but whatever), so there appears to be no good reason to delay.

The best part: 2010 goes down as the year of not a single Spanky/Bobo release!

They want to see how it does overseas before they place their order for US hardback copies. It's a sign that they fear it will fail. They don't want to be left with a jillion remainders on their hands. If it tanks over there, Tor will do the minimum to comply with the contract they signed, and slash the marketing budget for the States.
