War on Christmas 2008 : Lock & Load

I got a late start this year because of my back troubles, but I'm off to the
LittleBigTown now to file an injuction against the county for the Nativity
Scene on the Courthouse Lawn. (I won last year, but didn't get a ruling
until March. See how that works ?)

For the Record, I'm not against the public display of this stuff. I love
Christmas, was raised in the Southern Baptist Church, altho not now
a Believer. I still love my people and their crazy mixed-up ideas, G-d
love 'em.

But, the law's the law. The current Supreme Court ruling is that displays
of this type, specifically on Courthouse squares, can be placed on the
sides of the Courthouse, but not around the main entrance, or the pathway
to the main entrance, which is where ours is.

I swear, tho, I've raised hell about this for five years running - this year
they're doing it just to piss me off. Like I said, I don't mind the public
display of any damn thing the community as a whole wants to do. And
this is a Baby Jesus Lovin' town, and good for them. I don't even mind
county or city funds being used, or using the trustees from the jail to set
all the stuff up like they've been doing for years. Not the effing point.
The Law is the Law, or it isn't. One or the other. Can't pick and choose.

Unless that's the way they want to live out here, in which case, I've got
a mess of laws I'd like to start ignoring now, please. Thank you.

Why dont you just file with Zoning for a permit to build a nativity scene in a public place that has Budda in the manger, Muhammad as Joseph, and Zeus, Hades & Poseidon as the three wise men. Seems to me that all this "Establishment Clause" litigation that goes on over holiday displays on municipal property comes down to nothing more complicated than fairness anyway, so it should be easy to get that approved. And yes, I meant those quotation marks around "Establishment Clause" to tacitly indicate that the Supreme Court are idiots when it comes to this issue.

Yeah, given the first half of that sentence, I'd say the second half is almost certainly true.

I'm all for putting the "X" back in Chirstmas.

But I can't figure it out- Are you for the nativty or against it?

Either way, just go the sadistically evil route- set up one with Adolf in the manger, Dr. Strangelove as Jospeh, some blonde chick as Mary, Mussolini, Stalin, and Mou and the three wise men with a Nazi falg in the background?

Suck on that Chirstians!

(And Jews and Hindus and Muslims...)

I'm for these bastards obeying their own laws - which currently allows for creches on
courthouse squares, as long as they are not placed along the "main entrance" - ours
is on the courthouse lawn, less than fifty feet from the front doors. You cannot enter
the courthouse on civil business without passing by it.

I tried to get arrested this afternoon, but the sheriff was in a particularly good mood,
and would have none of it. Ended up taking me down to the Deadhorse for a few
beers. I really hate that fucker, he's one of my best friends.

Have you considered setting fire to it? :P

Why would I set fire to the Deadhorse ? That's my favorite bar.

A question is the beginning of wisdom. (The fear thing just keeps you shtoopid, oy!)

I'm not a pyro, but I've got the usual guy thang about enjoying watching things burn. I think it'd be a hoot to watch at least one Holy Family complete with Baybee Jayzuss fry. Don't you? (But that Mary, she was already a hot number and smoldering to begin with. I mean, think about it, ole sourpuss Yahweh himself came sniffin' 'round to get him a piece a' dat! )

Seriously, there shouldn't be ANY religious symbols anywhere in or around a government building. Of the people, for the people, and by the people. No gods in the equation.

(And no, as far as I know Jews don't have saints. Which is why it amuses me to be one. Bless you!)

I only felt like that as a child.

MMMMmmm, are you sure? When in school we pledged alligiance (sp) to the flag and one nation ....under god and all that! god is everywhere in our country.

Man, I really don't want to touch this one. But I guess I have to.

First off, Jean Marai - if you haven't read far enough into this board yet, you may not have realized that most of us are not only atheists, alot are positively anti-religious. And I think it's be safe to say that Frank Herbert had no small part in that, for most.

The SandChigger, for the most part, is a very decent person, except where Christianity and Kevin J. Anderson are concerned. And Noam Chomsky. And probably a few others, but you get my point. He will come up with the most g-dawful things about the Little Baby Jesus, so you either have to overlook that or take it personally. I'll assure you, he does mean those things as a personal attack. (I think).

Enough with the apologies for the Tick.

Why yes, I would sue my Government over their violations of the Law. (Have, Am, Will).
The injuction against the courthouse's creche is sitting on the Judge's desk right now, where it will
most likely remain until after the New Year. The law is very clear on what is (currently) acceptable;
my County is in blatant violation of that Law. Now, understand, I live way out in West Texas, where
the only thing more important than the Little Baby Jesus is Six-man High School Football. And rodeo.
These people are brainwashed Republicans, evangelical, fundamentalists, and GREAT supporters of the
"Rule of Law" when it comes to things like "Immigration" (meaning "All these damn meskins"), but not
such sticklers when it comes to Civil Rights. They don't want the Guvmint to tell 'em how to live.

As far as arson, for one thing, I helped pay for the g-ddamned Nativity Thing about ten years ago. Five
years ago when they started this thing of putting it in front of the Courthouse, I had some of my boys move
it around back. Got arrested for that, too. I don't want to destroy the thing, and I'm not against it being
on the courthouse square. I'm not against getting arrested, either, but these days, the Judge and the Sheriff
have discovered it's easier to just get me drunk and promise they'll "take care of it". One of these days,
I'll get hip to their little plans.

May the G-d of Your Choice Bless & Keep You !
