Dreams/Dreaming
Okay. So here it goes: I was talking to a friend about a dream I had this morning. And I mentioned that sometimes I wonder if women dream more than men do or do women just recall their dreams more often.
So to all my crazy/silly friends here Jacurutu; I’m posing these questions:
1. Do you dream? If so, how often? (Yeah, I know a lot of times we might dream but just don’t remember them once we wake up. Still I would like to read your thoughts on the matter.)
2. Are your dreams detailed: i.e. dreaming in color, do they include sounds, smells, and touch sensations that you can recall after you awaken?
3. Are your dreams weird or strange?
4. Can you read in your dreams? (I have someone say that they could not. That was how they would know they were dreaming. The letters made no sense)
5. How do your dreams play out for you? Is it like watching a movie or just strictly viewed from the first person perspective?
6. Do you have repeat dreams?
7. Can you return to the same dream if you are awaken in the middle of it?
8. For those who can speak multiple languages, do you dream in your native language or in a mixture of the languages you know?
I would appreciate any thoughts/discussions to these questions and any others that y’all can come up with.

Nothing, but that which is in our own imaginations.

I dream often, but can rarely remember anything after the first second of being awake. I remember dreaming, though. When I do remember details, it makes no sense at all - scenes morph into others with no continuity of place, people, goals or events.
My wife remembers her dreams almost all the time, and they are much less chaotic. The scene might be nonsensical - she's going to her high school with people from her work, for example - but a whole situation plays out without too much change to the people or places involved.
I can read in dreams, and can sometimes read, speak and understand other languages. I can't speak or read any language other than English in real life.
My dreams are always from my point-of-view. I never see myself in the third person in my dreams, and I'm always "there" (i.e. I'm not a disembodied presence observing things).
I don't have repeating dreams, but I have nightmares in which the same events (usually bad) repeat over and over and I can't stop them.
Once woken up, I can't go back to the same dream. But I can remember previous dreams (as dreams) in subsequent dreams.

I already posted an answer to the questions over on T(A)U, so this is just some additional shtuff.
I didn't mention nightmares.... When I was a student, I'd dream about being late for class a lot, especially being late when there was a test or I had to do a presentation or something.
I still have dreams about being late for class, or forgetting to prepare, or walking into the classroom wearing something strange. (I don't do the embarrassing naked dreams. Even I don't want to see me nude! ) Only the perspective is different now.
And sometimes I fly...
But never very high. I'm afraid of falling.

Yea, now you're allowed to do all that in your class.SandChigger wrote: Only the perspective is different now.
I have repeating dreams about flying with the power of thought(have to concentrate hard to lavitate), distractions causing me to fall...and I always fall for some reason- usually getting too high up and starting to get afraid of exactly that- that I'll get distracted and fall, and some minor fear of heights thingy were I recognize being too high up won't leave me a chance to land safely.SandChigger wrote:And sometimes I fly...

When they repeat it's usually in "clusters", i.e I have several over a few days and then they disappear.
I also have another kind I think I mentioned once, but, ironically(?) I can't remember what it's about.
Of course, I'll talk about some others things in my dreams later(gotta go to work for a couple of hours cuz someone's sick)...you know, them taking place in actual life and all.
In memory of Perach, who suffered and died needlessly.
I wish I could have been with you that one last time.

2.Level of detail varies from cartoonish color to full realism with touch and taste.
3.How could they not be?
4.I've never had to try. If there's something to read, I just know what it says in a dream.
5.Sometimes third person, sometimes first person. Strangely, I always feel precisely in control of myself and adept at moving even if I'm viewing myself in the third person.
6.Quite rarely.
7.Very, very rarely. It may start off a "return", but it will almost always quickly change.
8.Mixture of whichever languages I tend to think in at the time. At various times this has included Spanish and Hebrew alongside English.
I'm male.
My dreams are quite prone to containing paranormal or supernatural events or abilities. If it doesn't, it's likely of a romantic or sexual nature. Or possibly just what I think of as a "landscape" dream, wherein my mind just comes up with a really beautiful landscape to show me, often including parts of Haifa for some reason. Flying, superjumping, and phasing through walls are extremely common.

They're often detailed, even though sometimes i dont remember certain aspects later. My dreams tend to have all the sensations, up to the point where it's almost too real.Eyes High wrote:2. Ever seen a David Lynch movie? Sometimes my dreams can be that wierd but what's most is that, while dreaming, it's like everything in it is real and normal, yet when i wake up it's the usual "What the hell was that!" feeling.Eyes High wrote:3. Are your dreams weird or strange?
I remember when i was younger having dreams that would come true, that is the ultimate wierdness. It tended to be normal pointless stuff though, a certain situation would occur and i would remember what was gonna happen next, what people were gonna say what and how.
I obviously never told anyone, i didnt want people looking at me like i was crazy.
yes i can.Eyes High wrote:4. Can you read in your dreams? (I have someone say that they could not. That was how they would know they were dreaming. The letters made no sense)
They play out very vividly. I have a lot of memories but it has reached the point where i dont know wich are of real events and wich are of dreams.Eyes High wrote:5. How do your dreams play out for you? Is it like watching a movie or just strictly viewed from the first person perspective?
Whole repeat dreams are rare for me but there was this girl in blue dress that would appear in different dreams. What's worse is that i dont remember details of her face, only that she has a blue dress and dark hair.Eyes High wrote:6. Do you have repeat dreams?
Sometimes i had that luck.Eyes High wrote:7. Can you return to the same dream if you are awaken in the middle of it?
They vary from Portuguese (my native language) and English.Eyes High wrote:8. For those who can speak multiple languages, do you dream in your native language or in a mixture of the languages you know?
I dont tend to put any higher meaning in my dreams though, my subconscious must be as screwed up as the next person.

Male, over 41 years I would say fairly often, the last 5 years I have worked overnight shifts 4-6 days a week (6pm-6am) and my sleep has been broken, never getting more than 4 hours at a clip. So dreams have been scarce during that period.
2. Are your dreams detailed: i.e. dreaming in color, do they include sounds, smells, and touch sensations that you can recall after you awaken?
very detailed in every way, all senses alive and awake and recall.
3. Are your dreams weird or strange?
Normal situations that turn abstract and strange mostly
4. Can you read in your dreams? (I have someone say that they could not. That was how they would know they were dreaming. The letters made no sense)
Yes can read from streetsigns to books and all inbetween.
5. How do your dreams play out for you? Is it like watching a movie or just strictly viewed from the first person perspective?
in first person.. active participant in almost every case. only thing I can remember i have never done is died, done just about everything else.
6. Do you have repeat dreams?
over weeks have had repeating dreams as well as returning dreams from years ago.
7. Can you return to the same dream if you are awaken in the middle of it?
Not usually its a random return.
8. For those who can speak multiple languages, do you dream in your native language or in a mixture of the languages you know?

Yes, I dream a lot, with colours, smelss, tastes and sensations, for me it's like experiencing a virtual reality generator. Sometimes I can return to my dream after waking up in the middle of the night and I can dream in english too (being spanish my language)Eyes High wrote:...

OK, this morning I had a weird dream, in colour with full surround sound. I dreamt that our house had huge wasps in it about a foot long and we were trying to clear them out. The only way I could stop this wasp from stinging me was by spraying it with aerosol. Someone in the dream said "It's down, we've got it cold. Keep spraying it or it will wake up". I had a huge aerosol can and kept spraying it so it wouldn't wake. Then I woke up.

When I was younger I used to dream every night and recall most of it after I woke up, but now I find I start forgetting it within minutes of waking up.Eyes High wrote:1. Do you dream? My sensations are pretty dulled when awake, so I don't know if that affects me in my dreams. I know that I usually dream in color, but cannot recall the others.Eyes High wrote:2. Are your dreams detailed: i.e. dreaming in color, do they include sounds, smells, and touch sensations that you can recall after you awaken?
My dreams are usually always this way. Nothing completely insane, but in such a way you could feel it was a possible reality.Eyes High wrote:3. Are your dreams weird or strange?
For the most part, I can. Sometimes I can read some of it, but when I try to look again I'm prevented.Eyes High wrote:4. Can you read in your dreams? (I have someone say that they could not. That was how they would know they were dreaming. The letters made no sense)
I think when I was younger (very young) it was like a movie, but these days it's mostly first-person.Eyes High wrote:5. How do your dreams play out for you? Is it like watching a movie or just strictly viewed from the first person perspective?
A few of my dreams repeat themes, but never exactly the same. Sometimes I also have a dream that feels like I've had it before, but after thinking about it I don't think I have.Eyes High wrote:6. Do you have repeat dreams?

On a side note, most of my dreams are lucid. I'm aware that I'm dreaming, but I can never control what happens. Things are always out of my control. For example, I used to have dreams about a girl I had a crush on in junior high. Each time I was aware it was a dream, but I still allowed myself to be distracted and could never catch up to her and talk to her.
Usually I'm also aware whenever there's sex involved. I try to control the dream and have sex with someone in the dream, but the moment I realize I'm dreaming my vision starts to fade and everything gets fuzzy. I realize I'm waking up and try as hard as I can to stay asleep, but I always wake up.
This is also true with porn, or anything else I really want (like very rare collectibles or artifacts). They become so fuzzy that I can't see them or enjoy them.

Just saw this over at Worm's. With some of my dreams, I would be leary of having them recorded.
But I thought is was interesting, especially with my questions of late concerning other people's dreams.Mahnmut wrote:Japan's dream machine
