Rock n' Roll

Hey all you southerners! One of my favourite local bands is in your neck of the woods for the next few days. Dean Lickyer play face-melting, twist-and-shouting rock n' roll. Their music is a throw-back to classic rock, and not in an amateurish way. These guys could have been right up there with Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, and Black Sabbath, I dare say. Check out their myspace and listen to some songs (Never let You Go is my favourite track):

When I first saw these guys live, they were 16 & 17 years old, they were known as High Voltage, and they were blowing my mind! The singer has an amazingly rock-n-roll voice, and the guitar player is a God. My brother's band actually helped them out back in those days getting their first gigs in Toronto and such. Anyway, I thought I'd spread the word since right now, they're rocking out in Texas, and will be for the next few days. Here's their American tour sched:

18 Mar 2009 20:00 South Side on Lamar - All Ages Dallas, Texas
19 Mar 2009 14:00 HEADHUNTERS - Day Show at 2 PM Austin, Texas
20 Mar 2009 13:00 THE BLIND PIG (Red Gorilla Music Fest) - Day Show - 1 PM Austin, Texas
21 Mar 2009 19:30 THE THIRSTY NICKEL (Red Gorilla Music Fest) - Day Show at 7:30 PM Austin, Texas
25 Mar 2009 20:00 SUBTERRANEAN w/ Gringo Starr and the Mediums Chicago, Illinois

If you're at all interested, and are somewhat nearby any of those places, then I highly recommend you check them out! They're also pretty fun to party with.

I just found out that on the weekend, after playing all week in Toronto for Canadian Music Week, Gene Simmons himself walked into a Toronto rock club halfway through their set, and after the show he awarded them $10,000 for being his choice for CMW's best band! Apparently Gene has been in Toronto for the last few months scouting out indie Canadian acts for some TV series or something. I was blown away that these guys who I've supported for years recieved such notoriety.

And all my Canadian cohorts, be sure to check them out if you haven't already! You might have already seen them on Much Music's Disband.

The "Red Gorilla Music Fest" is part of the "SXSW" (South by SouthWest)
week-long music festival held yearly in Austin around St Patrick's Day.

It's become a really huge thing in the last few years, with literally
hundreds of bands playing all week up and down Sixth Street and
in festivals in the parks and such.

your buddies may not make it out, DI.
if they don't show for the Chicago gig, they're laid up in some little
UT co-ed's apartment and don't want to be bothered .....

Oh, yes that's it... They played SXSW last year as well, only this time they have a few more stops.

Do yourself a favour, SR, and go watch a sweet rock show! :D

And I forgot to mention... The singer is a Herbert fan!
