Interesting development over in the Amazon customer discussion threads here.
I was invited to the KJA Special Forces Group recently - probably because I rally to KJA's cause around here so much. I went ahead and joined just to see if the claims of unethical behavior were true.

Though I am not sure I would consider it completely unethical something about the sight didn't sit well with me. It does indeed seem to me that the scales are unfairly trying to be tipped in favor of KJA's books through the use of various review systems - including Amazon.

Needless to say I removed myself from the sight and I must say I'm disappointed in KJA and the tactics being used there.
Something else that ConPest will no doubt ignore on his next fly-by. ;)

Hey, (former?) bad taste in books aside, I'm rather impressed with Mr Carrig.

He had the honesty and integrity to admit that he had been invited, had joined but not liked what he saw, and had withdrawn as a result.

He's on a whole different level of existence, compared to shills like Conway, DeFouw, and the rest who won't even admit that they are members.

It's not even close.

Our good friend RedBugPenis just posted a "review" of Jessica's Wind that was nothing more than a re-hash of the jacket copy. That last, teensy-tiny, near-invisible shred of credibility he might have had? It's GONE.

KJASF member David James, telling US in an Amazon review comment thread, wrote:And I've seen jacurutu months ago. You guys aren't really nice at all. And I can say what I need to say here because I'm not so much saying that you don't have any valid opinions, indeed when I finish reading all of the books I may decide I don't like the additions either, but the way you go about it is all wrong. It's like you guys just live to hate and you got it all focused on Brian and Kevin's DUNE books. And Ronald has it all on Kevin, period.
Aw ... he NOTICED. :romance-heartsthree:

(But talk about LONG-WINDED. )

I post this for all the guests, recent arrivals and special little troopers....

The feelings on this board are the result of discussions on several boards, especially dumbnovels, over the last 3-5 years.

If you go back and read the topics and threads over the last several years you can see how and why attitudes changed, and many members of this board were rather tame if you check back far enough.

For example, almost nobody went after Byron like they do now or even Brian.

The only posters who seemed to be fired up from the beginning were the ones who already had read and knew about Kevin J Anderson. (I had never heard of him until I read the nudune books).

The HLP is responsible for any "hate" due to their "you are with us or against us" approach.
If you really think about it, if they really had the extensive notes claimed in the beginning, then there never would have been any need for their "you are with us or against us" approach.

What started as thousands of pages of notes and 20+ page outline has subsequently dwindled to 2-3 pages (they're never really certain even about this in their interviews) and perhaps a dozen pages of random notes.

THEY LIED AND YOU PEOPLE LOOK REALLY STUPID AND ABOUT AS SOPHISTICATED AS A KJA CHARACTER BURSTING IN AND SAYING WE ARE GOING ABOUT IT ALL WRONG WITH THE WRONG ATTITUDE.

If somebody outside of the HLP recommended the approach they followed he or she should be fired.

Well, too late...

Kevin is in firm control now!

If you count DoD. Not many of us were active back then though. I certainly wasn't, Freak. I joined up a few months after DN changed boards to phpbb from whatever it had before.

Ah, memories... Seems like yesterday when the DN BBS opened. I was so happy to have a place to voice my greivances and was immediately banned when I did.

It was the first one I found, and I lurked there for a year before daring to open my mouth. It was pretty active too.

I had a blast there, and I showed up as the place was starting to crumble.

Though, I also had a blast there when the crumbling was full force, and after I was banned for the first time!

The really twisted thing about it all is, I feel I know FH's work better for having defended it there. :puke:
