Going anywhere this summer?
Is anybody here going to any cool places this summer?I am going to Ireland, and maybe Scotland, as well as Lithuania and Russia, were I have relatives.
I plan to spend alot of time in Dublin..never been there before. It's partly my newfound interest in James Joyce..here's why: http://johnhamilton.us/2/jamesjoyceletters.htm

Ill be going to Seattle lots for work, and to Green Bay to visit my folks (with the kids and wife). I also have to travel to Cleveland and L.A. for work, and possibly Oregon too.

Nothing definite yet. (Omph, when are you going to be in Cleveland?)
Not summer stuff, but it's the beginning of the "Golden Week" holidays here. I took today off and am heading over to Mashiko for their biannual pottery festival.

I'm going to Canada to live in an igloo.

I like Huckabee.
No, not the National Igloo I guess I started thinking about building one when I was in Germany and saw deep snow for the first time. I find methods for extreme cold weather survival interesting, it takes suprisingly little exposure to kill a person.

They're really hard to make without exactly the right type of snow. Look for hardened snow drifts and cut blocks from that, nothing else works properly. I guess I'm loosing cred as the non-patriotic/stereotypical Canuck here...Freakzilla wrote:Baraka Bryan wrote:our national igloo?Freakzilla wrote:I'm going to Canada to live in an igloo.

Supposedly the Inuit people have almost 20 different words for snow, based on it's varying properties.
If 90% of my life consisted of one substance I'd have a pile of names for it too, I'll be Fremen can name 20 different kinds of sand.

If anyone does come to Toronto we should all get a beer together, there are enough of us.
I head north to shoot clay and fish for bass in the summer time. Canadian cottage country is truly god's backyard.
I considered going to the USA but Im afraid of pig flu!
No, just in this economy I cant afford to leave the province.

And we don't even live on a desert planet! As the term is used by geologists, sand particles range in diameter from 0.0625 (or 1⁄16 mm, or 62.5 micrometers) to 2 millimeters. An individual particle in this range size is termed a sand grain. The next smaller size class in geology is silt: particles smaller than 0.0625 mm down to 0.004 mm in diameter. The next larger size class above sand is gravel, with particles ranging from 2 mm up to 64 mm (see particle size for standards in use). Sand feels gritty when rubbed between the fingers (silt, by comparison, feels like flour).
ISO 14688 grades sands as fine, medium and coarse with ranges 0.063 mm to 0.2 mm to 0.63 mm to 2.0 mm. In USA, sand is commonly divided into five sub-categories based on size: very fine sand (1/16 - 1/8 mm diameter), fine sand (1/8 mm - 1/4 mm), medium sand (1/4 mm - 1/2 mm), coarse sand (1/2 mm - 1 mm), and very coarse sand (1 mm - 2 mm). These sizes are based on the Krumbein phi scale, where size in Φ = -log base 2 of size in mm. On this scale, for sand the value of Φ varies from -1 to +4, with the divisions between sub-categories at whole numbers.

Cold enough to build an igloo in the winter months, not in the summer.Omphalos wrote:Does it even get that cold in Red Deer?Freakzilla wrote:I'm going to Canada to live in an igloo.
Red Deer in the summer is quite nice, weather wise.

Re: Going anywhere this summer?
Can you tell who's back on the market?
I'm not a heavy drinker, so I get wasted pretty fast. This past Sunday we had good roommate moving back to Regina. He couldn't get a decent job here, not one that was better than an offer from back home. So we had a big send off for him. I had 8 or 9 beer that night and we did 6 shots once we got to the local pub. I was hurting big time

That should be enough to get anyone drunk.
Anything more than a couple of drinks a couple of times a week approaches mosts peoples trigger level for alcoholism.

Well, almost anyone's alcohol tolerance will be greater than mine. I'm typically the cheapest drunk in any group...and the happiest!Freakzilla wrote:That should be enough to get anyone drunk.GamePlayer wrote:So we had a big send off for him. Since I don't drink I'll be the one taking embarrassing photos. Some for blackmail and others for... personal use...

Better bring a video/photo hybrid... I foresee some pretty interesting conversations, that may need to be relived, at a later date.
