Y'all will probably throw shoes at me for saying this but...

The more I read Dune the more Paul fades into the background. It is more critical who they cast as Jessica and that actress will have to carry the movie. Without Jessica, Paul would never have made it. Kyle McLaughlin's hair could phone in the part of Paul.

Next I'd worry about casting the Baron and Piter, the two must compliment each other.

Stilgar is pretty important too... the rest... minor characters.

*ducks*

I think you might be on to something there, those characters you mention are all important character building-wise. Most of us just want Paul and Gurney and Thufir to fulfil fanboy dreams of coolness 8) .

Of course.

I'd have to add that I think the most important casting would be Duncan. this is difficult because in the first part he has a rather small role, so i can't see many major actors taking it on unless they are contracted for the series.

I'd love to see Dune done as a weekly TV show. many times in my readings I've felt it would do well broken into short, 1-hr episodes. that would allow you to do Season 1 as Dune, Season 2 as Dune Messiah and Children of Dune (or even Dune Messiah as a 2-3 hour mid season mini-series). God Emperor of Dune might be better done as a 6 hour mini-series. Heretics and Chapterhouse could be done in the weekly series style again.

I'm surprised i wasn't immediately banned for suggesting (jokingly) the Jonas brothers for Paul, Gurney, and Duncan.

STELLA! I love Stella and Stella Shorts, but I've never seen this one. Fucking great!

"I believe in god, I just don't think of him as a dude with a big white beard, you know? Like, god could be this leaf!"
"God could totally be that leaf! God IS that leaf!"
It was hard not finding a clip little to no cursing or overt "sexuality."

Well, that's only because this isn't the Ban Thread, Amp. Be careful. You're dangerously close to banment. :D

Why? It's a bit part in Dune. Except for his drunk sceen and aiding in Paul and Jessica's escape, he's mostly just talked about.

He's a main character from GEoD on and in DM he's not really Duncan, but he's not that critical in Dune.

If they're looking to franchise this, as well as make it more "muscular," you can sure as hell bet that there's going to be more Duncan in the Dune film.

When Paul is going to fight with Feyd-Rautha he is described as a stringy whipcord of a youth, What about Michael Jackson? (he already wears a face mask...) :)

I would cast James McAvoy, again. But knowing Hollywood, the role will go to: Shia LaBeouf.

He is not that bad, he might be able to pull it off, would need to grow a beard in the dessert though

Chigger can you at least pretend to play along?

damn, thats scary. He is who KJA would cast.

the cast list will be very interesting. for example, if it reads like Battlefield Earth...

Shia LaBeouf is a perfect example why Paul must be cast using an unknown actor. Even if you cast a known actor with talent, you'll get too many people associating that actor with previous roles. The actor playing Paul has to be a blank slate so that most people will accept his transformation from boy to man.

Oh, Jack, come on, lighten up! :)

SURELY you know that studios and directors and producers perve the Web (or more usually, have a flunky do it), looking for casting suggestions from the Great Unwashed! Maybe one of them will see your list and think, "Damn, why didn't I think of HIM/HER for the part?!" Happens ALL the time! Who knows, you might even get a mention in an interview or a thank-you email!

Or at the very least, imagine the ABSOLUTE THRILL if you suggest someone on one of these threads and ... THEY ACTUALLY CAST THAT PERSON FOR THE PART!!! WHOOHOOO AND WOW!!! :D

Ahem. Crash & Burn. :)

Okay, then, have at it. Didn't mean to sound like a grumpy old man.

(Threads like this still interest me not at all, tho). ;)

It can be fun to speculate though. I don't believe any of us actually believes that our suggestions are being read by anyone involved in the casting of said roles. However, it can be funny to read some of the names suggested.

I nominate Chig for the part of Thufir Hawat (please disregard my previous nomination of David Wain).

No serious needed here. Its just fun to talk Dune... They are making a new film, so its relavent, plus to me there are not enough good actors to play this role in a convincing way, like I said near impossible... just4fun
