Semuta and music

Did anyone think Frank was having a subtle jab at music and drugs in real life with the connection of semuta with wailing music? A lot of modern music (and I'm sure much older music) is associated with drug use and to many new styles of music sound dissonant.

I would have simply attributed this to Frank's awareness of the people around him (and I do in part) except that he is quoted as not liking rock music; when Iron Maiden wrote a song about Dune they had to rename it 'To Tame A Land'. Any thoughts?

I've never given it a second thought, really. Considering the way drugs and music go hand-in-hand it seemed only natural.

He may have been poking fun at the music/drug subculture of the early '60s but I never got that feeling.

I'm going to believe that everything Frank wrote in the Sixties was
a direct comment on his time, so yes, semuta was about drugs (LSD, pot, whatever)
and the music scene of his day. (I'll say this again, but I need an emoticon:C.F. Norman Spinrad)

BTW, Leto, your link crashed the FireFox, so Fuck You for that ....

back to the point:
as opposed to JRR Tolkien, who was NOT writing about His Time.

the Harkonens are AMERICA (& them British fags)

British fags rock! We're classier than American fags by a million miles. Maybe your gay son will hook up with a British fag, then you won't have to put up with the smell of unwashed Texan cock on his breath.

It is. But since I don't think one can classify cigarettes as "classy" I think cl was attempting to be pompous using the other definition of fag :)

oh I knew that. I was just being silly, naive, air-headed. Giving someone an opening for a joke. You choose.

(hold on tight fellows, here comes the bad pun)

besides; I guess to some both could be 'smoking.'

No, there's nothing pompous about realising that British fags are superior in many ways to US fags. As for Euro fags, ugh, where do I start?

It is, and a bum is something you sit on in the UK, rather than a tramp.

Well, you can keep your nativity, just not in front of SR's court house. (Or was it town hall?)

:P

And, actually, sitting on tramps can be quite comfy.

Just be sure to remove any needles, bottles, sterno cans or dead animals from their pockets first. :)

hmm thought a "fag" was a bundle of twigs.. learn something new everyday:) as for brit vs Euro? I thought british were part of Euro, whats the distinction?

As for "Smoking a Fag" I guess that can have all kinds of meanings.. considering that the word "smoke" can mean to dispose of or kill. But in my innocent mind I will take that as meaning your going out back to burn a pile of twigs:)

Aussie fags are kinda rubbish - I may have limited experience with them but the fact that they're rubbish is why I've had limited experience.

That's because all the hot ones are over here! There was a time maybe two or three years ago where nearly every bar in London seemed to be staffed with hot Aussies, now it's hot Eastern Europeans. So it looks like the hot Aussies come over to the UK, leaving the grim leftovers behind for you to enjoy.

Class. We'll NEVER surrender to the Europeans. At least the UK has some semblance of civilisation, which is why my parents left third world countries to live here.
