I'm just saying, if I had to choose between the life of the hippo and the life of a person, the person would win everytime. Though...there is something strangely ironic/poetic about the way he went out. Not exactly sure that's the way I'd want to go, but you know...
And hey, if they could sew the beast back up and all that, more power to them.
