So, working with ProgRock Records, I have created a rock music CD companion to the novel, The Edge Of The World. I wrote all the lyrics with my wife, bestselling author Rebecca Moesta, for the 13 tracks on the CD, which adapt one storyline from the novel.

I listened through the 2008 interview again, and it was just one self-promotional answer after another. For example:

First question: What drew you to SF initially, as a genre.

KJA answers:
- saw war of the worlds at 5
- read H G Wells at 8.
- "as soon as he could read adult books" he read Clarke, Asimov.
- started writing in 9th grade
- first published as junior in HS
- first novel published before leaving college
- 20 years later, he's written over 100 books, 46 of them are bestsellers.

Had to get that last impressive-sounding stat in.

This is my favourite, though:

What *one book* would you recommend to someone who has never read you?
- Well with over 100 books it's hard to choose just one.
- If star wars fan, Darksaber.
- From "my own stuff" pick up first seven suns (and then read the rest). That's "my masterpiece".
- If they're Dune fans they could pick up Paul of Dune (they could "start right there").
- "The catchphrase of Paul of Dune is 'How did a Hero turn into a Tyrant?'"
- You could start with House Atredies and that trilogy
- You could start with Butlerian Jihad and that trilogy

There is so much comedy gold in there ... it's hard to pick what might be the most obnoxious thing on that list. Really, I keep changing my mind.

Bottom line, though: a living author referring to a recently released — and poorly received — series as "his masterpiece" comes perilously close to defying description. That is just self-obsessed jackassery on a galactic scale.

Yeah, the whole interview is really something to behold. Although I wouldn't waste your time .

Every question gets a long meandering answer which inevitablly morphs into:
- how KJA was a child sf prodigy
- how he's written x pages, sold y copies, or has had z bestsellers
- a promotion for the latest book he's trying to foist on us.

... And sometimes all three. It's painful, sad, and hilarious all at the same time.

It's KJA, in other words.

I love that masterpiece bit. It's like he thinks that word means "the thing I am proudest of," instead of a perfect story that drives it home. The way he says "it's my masterpiece," like everyone who writes gets to have one to their name.
