6-Man

6-man HS football starts tonight out here in West Texas.

Life is good again.

I actually live on the edge of the ISD line, the school my taxes
go to is tiny-tiny, they play six-man, the ISD that starts on the
other side of the FM is a little bigger, they play 11. Kids from
both schools live around here and go to my church (which I
haven't been in on a Sunday in a long time, but never miss a
BBQ - it's a Southern Thing)

the 6-man game (Falcons) tonight is away; way, way, away, the buses
left out this morning. I'll miss that one, and jump over to the
little town and watch the Bulldogs play with too many kids on the field.

that way I can still take a pull on my flask from time to time & make it home.

I've been off work for a few weeks now - this may be the year I really quit.
I missed almost all the good re-enactments last fall & winter with my back
trouble, then felt like I had to "make it up" and worked all spring, so I missed
all the good spring events.

I'm already thinking about just not going out on the next call, and spending the next
six to eight months in the 1860s ....

My 5-y-o boy and 3-y-o girl just started baseball, they're on the same team.. He played last year and it took him the whole season to learn to run to first and not to charge the pitcher's mound.

But this is The Princess' first season. She takes her pink batting helmet and purse and puts on lipstick between plays.

There's no make-up in baseball!

you got them watching the Little League World Series ?

team from Georgia went quite aways - think they got knocked
out by them little thugs from Chula Vista yesterday.

LLWS is the ONLY baseball I'll watch on TV anymore.

They can barely sit still to PLAY, much less watch it on TV. I heard about the team from Warner-Robbins getting knocked out yesterday though, bummer.

I'm thinking of hitting my alma mater's game tonight, SR. We play with 11 out here, but it's still fun.

I usually leave at halftime when I go. I just like to support the school and take in the sensations (the colors, the smell of the grass, the occasional nice play). I'm not heavily invested in the winning and losing; it's just a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours.

My 20 year HS reunion is this year.

My 15th was this year, I avoided it like the plague.

Six Man is great. It's bloody FAST! and far more entertaining than regualr football, aka rugby for pussy's :Adolf:

SR, you sound just like my father going on about Chula Vista, they are an arrogant lot, someone needs to clean their clocks good.

I was in San Diego last night watching that game in a restaurant. I left before Chula Vista rallied, but even up until then it was a great game.

Thanks for that link, Duke.
I'm still regretting not copying all my
links when I migrated machines.

I'm just now moving around - got a little tipsy last night,
ended up not going anywhere but out in the mesquite
sometime after midnight to one of the little campsites
I've got scattered around the place - had a nice little
campfire, the dogs, a guitar & a bottle. 'fore I knew it,
the sun was coming up.

anyway, apparently the Falcons didn't score a goddamn point
last night, while the other kids went to town on them in a Caddy.

0 & 1.
'bout normal.

looks like the rain delay at the LLWS may be over -

San Antonio's gonna hand them punks from Chula Vista their asses - again.

but somehow I completely missed the China-Taiwan thing -
apparently, China agreed to stop shooting missiles over Taiwan
if they agreed to call themselves "Chinese Taipei" in international
sporting events.

Anyway, Taiwan's the international champion, they'll play the
winner of Texas-California tomorrow for the title.

ahh, game on 7pm eastern.
what time is that in the real world ?

lessee - shit, that's too long.
I'll be drunk by then.

oh well.

looks like a thunderstorm a-brewing to the north here -
think I'll go flush out some doves with the dogs and see if it comes in ....

looks like I'm rooting for the little chinks ... here they go, first pitch.

play some ball, you little rice-eating motherfuckers !!

back to back home runs for the little yellow ones ...

well, shit.

I'm just wonderin', was Taiwan ever a French colony ?

them little chinese kids just gave the hell up ....

Heading to a game tonight, SR?

I might head out to watch the alma mater maybe actually tackle someone this week. But we've got some pretty bad air here now from all the California wildfires, so I might skip it.

Goddamn Californians.

I don't know why people live there except for the pot. Wildfires, mudslides, earthquakes, smog... It's like God is trying to tell them smething.

yes, yes

kickoff for the first homegame @7:30.

I'm pretty sure the kids're gonna get their asses handed to them,
I just hope we can last out the 45 point mercy rule & make it to
the third quarter.

but goddamnit, there's HUGE thunderstorms popping up all around ....

I can't find my fucking little camera - I wanted to post a pic of the field -
it's about 3 miles from the actual school, in the middle of cotton fields,
nothing else around, just the field, and two little bleachers (did I spell that right ? looks funny ...)

the field was in a Texas Monthly article several years ago, juxtaposed against one of the
huge stadiums at a Dallas high school ...

oh, and y'all may remember me bitching last year about not being able to get these sumbitches
together to get the kids some band instruments, atleast a little drum corp or something.

yeah, no joy this year, either.
I'm gonna bring 'em a bag full of kazoos for homecoming ...

short story, asses - handed to them, backwards.

game took 3 hours to complete, between thunderstorms and hail.

drunk, yes. Clete showed up with a cooler & several bottles. left owing me money.

nothappy atall with our new crop of little cheerleaders. toochubby & perky.
at one point, after we were all drenched and the wind was blowing one boucned
up and said "hey, if it wasn't raining & the wind wasn'tblowing, it's be really hot
right now." three wet cold skinny chicks told her to "shut up, becky. just shut up"

0-2.

go falcons ...
