It's always sad to hear about things like this. RIP Patrick.

Freakzilla gives water to the dead!

A worthy cause, though, but right now I'm just hoping the news coverage of Patrick's death will be more tasteful than the coverage of Michael Jackson's. Swayze deserves better than to be a go-to story for a 24 hour news show that ran out of news

I liked him in Donnie Darko, it was a courageous choice to play one of the "bad" guys, quite "unholywoodly"

He seemed very sincerely ashamed. It was a great role.

One of my favourite films, and the only movie in which I've ever really enjoyed him. I could never stand Dirty Dancing. His performance as Jim Cunningham in Donnie Darko worked out great for me because we're supposed to hate him.
Jim Cunningham: Son... Do you see this? This is an Anger Prisoner. A textbook example. Do you see the fear, people? This boy is scared to death of the truth. Son, it breaks my heart to say this, but I believe you are a very troubled and confused young man. I believe you are searching for the answers in all the wrong places...

Donnie: You're right, actually. I am pretty- I'm, I'm pretty troubled and I'm, I'm pretty confused. But I... and I'm afraid. Really, really afraid. Really afraid. But I... I... I think you're the fucking Antichrist.

yep a reaaal good movie, that doesn't feel it has to explain everything to a dumbed down audience, it leaves enough room for interpretation(so much like dune), no magical beings from the future saving the day here...

but hey we should be talking about Patrick here!
(wouldn't mind starting a thread on Donnie Darko though)

 You do realize that that's exactly what happens in Donnie Darko right? They just put it at the beginning instead of the end.

I do NOT recommend its straight-to-video sequel, "S. Darko"

It's garbage. Some interesting parallels to the first, but mostly utter garbage.

I liked Swayze quite a bit - I enjoyed the types of characters he played in the 80s,
the tough ol' Southern boy, didn't take no shit, but had a strong moral compass
and knew how to treat women. Even if most of the movies were terribly stupid,
even the good ones. Red Dawn - great, great movie, but just shameless Regan-era
flag-waving and propaganda. Road House has got to be one of the dumbest movies
ever made, but I'll still stop on it when surfing the dish (Ron White's got the best
line - these bouncers were fixing to kick him out of a bar - "You know, them bouncers
that think bouncin' is the coolest thing on earth and hang out and talk about bouncin'
and masturbate to Road House")

anyway, I always found some value in the characters he portrayed back then and
encouraged my boys to watch his movie, hoping some of that would rub off on them.
No such luck ....
