He kinda has done what it takes, but hasn't actually got anything done yet... I'm sure there was someone more qualified.

that's kind of a weird decision, more like following the hype like if it were a standard tv contest or what have you...
but I reckon even Nobel committees have to fall for that trap too, next prize? Bono?

I told you, but you never believe the Prophet.

.

If the truth can be told, so as to be understood, it will be believed.

yeah that was the idea, especially when you read this:
Moyo’s argument is a blast not only against the aid establishment; it’s also a critique of rock star Bono, who has guilted Western governments into increasing their aid to Africa dramatically over the past half decade. Moyo said at the forum that she has several problems with Bono and other entertainers speaking up for Africa. In addition to the fact that she thinks they’re misguided, they paint Africa and Africans as victims rather than countries and people with capabilities and promise, and she thinks they’re usurp the role of African leaders—who should rightfully speak for Africa. “It’s like having an International musician like Amy Winehouse commenting on the US debt crisis rather than Obama. It makes no sense,” she said.

Ask yourself the question differently
"What did they did not do?"

I'd like to give Cuba the benefit of the doubt (RIP Castro), but Oswald (an idealist-Soviet) is a fair trade-off.

Know what the best thing about the Cash for Clunkers program was?

It got most of the Obama bumper stickers off the road. :P

Again, seriously, WHAT THE FUCK!?!?!

While this isn't the same ballpark as KJA winning a Hugo, this is more along the lines of giving Russell Crowe the Best Actor Oscar for Gladiator instead of The Insider.

I seriously hope he turns it down. As much as it is an honor, his critics will spin this badly for him either way, especially with as much flak as he is taking for the things he hasn't done yet. I do think he is perfectly capable of doing something worthy of winning the Peace Prize, but lets let him do it first before we hand him the prize.

What do you mean? He beat the Republicans.....That's more than enough reason for me.

I think it has to be due to the "hitting the reset button" w/ the Russians
and the scrapping of the European Missile Shield.

And a lot of wishful thinking and hope versus actual results.
And the fact that Barak's not George W. Bush, the Eurofags have taken
his election as a sign of a return to sanity here.

and I think the prize carries a million and a half dollars now, right ?
What's the rules on that for a sitting president ? (I think Wilson was the
only sitting president who won, yeah ? Seems like Carter was already
out of office, but maybe not.)

Anyway, all this will actually do is deepen the partisan divide ... Rush & Beck will go
fucking apeshit over this today.

In the words of hoards of mindless right-wing wing-nuts, "ditto."

Man I love Obama, and I'm glad as hell he replaced that war criminal Bush - but WTF? No way this guy deserves the Nobel Peace Prize - that's pretty much the highest honour on the fucking planet. When his term is over, and he's done some significant good, then give him the damned prize, not now when he's just getting started.

WTF?

Exactly. Kinda feels like the hot popular chick won the pageant even though her talent was "talking". I like the guy, but this is fishy. He wasn't even on the short list of front-runners. I would think the Nobel committee would be beyond the superficial, but I think America just got an "E" for effort.

I think it's a good pick if you think about what he stands for and his many accomplishments to get in a good position to fight for them. He is the leader of the free world, and the first black leader at that. This along with his policy put him over the edge.

I say congrats to the man!

The Cairo Speech
Opening talks w/ Iran and North Korea
Getting Israelis and Palestinians to talk again
Getting rid of the Eastern European missile shield
Fostering positive feelings toward the U.S. again
Getting Russia back on board
etc.

It's just as much if not more than most other recipients have done.

So everyone who doesn't like it can suck on Obama's Peace (piece?)

I don't think he doesn't rock, but it's far too early. There are a lot of other people doing amazing things that could actually use the money and recognition to do more.
