Well, yeah, but it does appear rather slow-burning.

I guess Keith won't get to add Hollywood producer to his credentials after all

Re: New Dune Movie
YES!!!
The question now, though, is whether Byron had a different outcome than this with Paramount in mind when he told someone over on FB to expect news by the end of March (=another MASSIVE FAIL), or if they have some new deal up their sleeves and are going to reveal it now after Paramount is out? Rubinstein's comments make me doubt the latter.
Yeah, how much DID they pay the hacks & parasites?

WHY?Rubinstein said that he would probably re-approach Morel and Palmer, but those conversations haven’t yet happened.
Oh, a financier, is that all?All they now need is a financier ready to put up the $100 million or so in production budget needed to get the film under way. If they do use the Palmer script, Paramount stands to recoup some of its development costs.
Yeah, how much DID they pay the hacks & parasites?
As opposed to spices you rub on your nipples or smack on your bumbums? WTF?Dune tells the story of an interplanetary battle for control of the desert planet Arrakis and its supply of Melange, a spice that can be ingested.

Byron's a bigger douchnet than I gave him credit for if he's stringing along the fanboys only to let them be disappointed. Any news yet on DN? DuneNovels: Once again, you heard it here last.

Well said, my Chigger. Well said.SandChigger wrote:YES!!!
I compromise not at all on this subject: there should be no Dune movie, in any form, that involves Spanky and Bobo and lines their pockets with undeserved cash.
I don't care at all about studios, directors, scripts, and cast. The only thing that matters is that The Two Idiots are not involved.

Re: New Dune Movie
I would assume that KJA being listed as a "co-producer" is part of any agreement he has with the HLP concerning him not throwing tantrums in public.
And revealing that he's really been doing ALL the writing all this time.

Re: New Dune Movie
I thought this was the "New Information Age" where art & entertainment were going to throw off the corporate shackles
and run naked and free thru the tubes of the innerwebz ?
where's the crazed, brilliant super-fan, hyped-up on woofers & tweeters and gallons of Mountain Dew,
using any of the 3D rendering engines to create a 57-hour animated epic covering every page of all
six books, gone viral before the lawyers can wake Byron up and tell him to take the embedded video
off the Official Corporate Dune Site ?
and what happened to the movie that kid came thru here spamming about ?
this is getting on my nerves - you know, they used to call software that never
got out of the planning stages "vapourware" - and do they still spend a ton of
money on promoting video games that never get finished and released ?
tell you what, Sparky, save the money on the promo stuff, put it back into the project, & holler at me when you're finished ...

Re: New Dune Movie
I had an interview lined-up with Jock if/once the project fell apart, so I sent him a reminder a couple days ago. He's still nervous about "stepping on anyone's toes," so looks like we'll have to wait a few years or more to get pre-production stories and more concept artwork.

No, I think he means Jock who was doing the concept art for Peter "The Beater" Berg's thing.

Paramount's rights have lapsed... But other big production companies are banging on the door.

Re: New Dune Movie
I don't doubt that the Dune property is a hot one, but think about how long it takes each new company to even decide if they will use the option. They are basically starting over from scratch unless the deal includes all work already done on the project.

Re: New Dune Movie
Since the rights lapsed they will have been inundated with communication from production companies looking to make a lowest common denominator blockbuster fronted by a top brand name (by-the-numbers script, quick return, you give us the brand name, we give you money = insta-dollars!)
And after so many years fucking about and book sales in free-fall they might just say yes...

Re: New Dune Movie
Rubinstein mentioned something about not having decided yet whether they would try to take the script in turnaround... meaning they would have to pay Paramount for it, allowing the studio to recoup some of its investment.
I hope the thing is like one of those giant European diamonds stolen from Africa... giving the kiss of death to everyone that touches it.
Would serve the Hollywood shits right, the way they're all priapic over remakes and reimaginings and banging the Herbert/Merritt's doors.

Again, that might not be an entirely bad thing...DuneFishUK wrote:And after so many years fucking about and book sales in free-fall they might just say yes...
Teg and I were talking the other day about the movie deal going bust and he pointed out that a movie drawing interest back to Dune might help make more people aware of just how shitty the new books are.
And a shitty movie made with the blessing of the HLP and with Anderhack and BoBo the Clown as CO-producers wouldn't exactly put them in a good light, either.
I guess you really do just have to look for the silver lining.

TheKJA and his shit books are more damaging than anything us Talifans could make up - anything that makes more people aware of this is happy daysSandChigger wrote:Again, that might not be an entirely bad thing...DuneFishUK wrote:And after so many years fucking about and book sales in free-fall they might just say yes...

FWIW I entirely selfishly want a good movie made in the UK (and given the struggle they had convincing Paramount that hack co-producers were necessary, don't bank on it happening again in chapter 2)

Um... that's a post link that requires you to log in and reply.
This is the one for Byron's comment:

When did that fuckwad FantomAss crawl back up out of the swamps?
(And when did NumbNuts let you start posting again? Or were you never Freakbanned twice after all?)
Anyway, nothing really new there: DumbAss posted that "big production companies" bullshit over on the "Official Dune" page on Facebook about the same time... last week.
