Hello
Hey everybody. I've been following things with the OH for about a year now, just never bothered to register until now. I think I commented once on the Hairy Ticks blog. I'm going to be starting up my annual read through of the series soon so this seems like a good time to join up and make use of the reading groups.
Anyways I'm a 21 year old Dune fan, first read Dune in 2000. I consider myself lucky to have missed all the prequel/sequel shitstorm taking place at the time. I got through CoD when I was still in middle school but I just couldn't handle GEoD at the time. I continually reread the first three books. Somewhere along the line I picked up TBJ in an airport bookstore. Read it, was severely underwhelmed and pretty much forgot about it. Then I heard about PoD. I read some KJA quotes lamenting how confusing Messiah is. I discovered, amazingly enough, that there is a huge gap between Dune and DM that needs to be filled. Bullcrap! Even at twelve I never felt that way. I definitely didn't really grasp what Herbert was trying to say, but I knew he was trying to say something. It's stupid but I took Anderson's descriptions of DM personally. Messiah is my favorite, after the original. I'd even consider it the best but Dune itself holds a special place in my heart. To act like Messiah is an incomplete story, or that it needs to be prefaced in order to make sense, felt like a slap in the face.
So yeah, I guess my slow burning anger has finally gotten me to register. I have to thank you all, reading some stuff here rekindled my interest in Dune. Last year I read GEoD, Heretics, and Chapterhouse and loved them all. I look forward to discussing the novels with everyone.
Also, side note, I have the honor of living a five minute jaunt down the interstate from KJA. My dentist knows him. My dentist didn't like Messiah, either. One of my old scoutmasters is actually his neighbor. No, I won't go down there, I don't want to be featured in a KJA tweet, but I do dream of running into him in public someday. I'll ask him if he can fill in all the gaps in my drywall with some new novels.

Welcome, Twice Welcome.
I don't think the author should make the reader do that much work - Kevin J. Anderson
We think we've updated 'Dune' for a modern readership without dumbing it down.- Brian Herbert
There’s an unwritten compact between you and the reader. If someone enters a bookstore and sets down hard earned money(energy) for your book, you owe that person some entertainment and as much more as you can give. - Frank Herbert

Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

Do not be quick to reveal judgment. Hidden judgment is often more potent. It can guide reaction whose effects are felt only when too late to divert them.

It might be worth considering banning anyone who asks how any of us are doing anyway. A question like that shows weakness.Omphalos wrote:A spammer.
