Disco was a liberation for gays and blacks which was taken over and bastardised by the mainstream. I've seen the old TV clips of the backlash, where white heteros were all burning disco vinyls (they're probably classics - what an outrage!), shoving the gays and blacks back into the sidelines whilst they indulged themselves in bland rock music and white trash subculture.

Disco never died, it just went underground and morphed into dance music, and now the gayers and blacks have taken over the airwaves! Long live disco!
