I spit in your general direction...
Hi all
I first read Dune over 20 years ago and am about to start re-reading again.
Having read 3 or 4 of the BH / KJA books (I persevered after the first to give them a chance to get better - a mistake I can't undo) I have feelings of deep betrayal and disappointment. Oh, and anger.
A few days ago I was asked to name my top 3 books. Dune came out of my mouth as the first on my list before a single neuron could get in action

Re: I spit in your general direction...
Thanks, all!
I've been having a nose around the forum and have realised it really is time for me to re-read the books. There's so much I've forgotten! It's weird that I am avoiding certain threads in case of spoilers in books I have read about 10 times each but that's what I've always loved about the series - every time you read it you discover some new sub-text you'd never even guessed was there before.
The last time I read them I remember deciding the whole thing was really a story about Duncan whose existence was "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose" - a kind of fractal demonstration of the reason the Golden Path was needed. Wonder if I'll think the same this time...
I'll be joining in the discussion properly once I have caught up with the storyline again

I totally disagree with you about Duncan, though.
Paul of Dune was so bad it gave me a seizure that dislocated both of my shoulders and prolapsed my anus.

I can't figure out where I'd put my thoughts about Duncan (I couldn't pick a book, let alone a chapter!) but I'd not be able to argue my case anyway right now - I've forgotten too much to reason why I came up with the notion. I'll be sure to post my musings when I get back into the books, thoughinhuien wrote:To save Freak the time, remember to post your muses in the Reading Groups.
I'll probably disagree with me too, this time!Freakzilla wrote:I totally disagree with you about Duncan, though.

Welcome! And can you elaborate on that idea?
