I was watching this movie last night and noticed the term "cone of silence" was used. After researching the term a little bit, wiki says it's from the TV show "Get Smart" which started in 1965.

I wonder if "Get Smart" got it from Dune?

"Cone of silence" is a term I heard the engineers use frequently when I was doing land use planning work for cell phone tower companies. At the time I asked them where it came from - thinking the same thing you obviously are - and nobody knew, but they knew that it was in fact a technical term in the RF business, and had been used for a long time. It has to do with a conical area above a transmitter that signal does not enter.

When did the serialization of Dune start again?

Isn't it more likely that FH knew the term from engineering and applied it in the story? :)

yep, 10 years in USMC aviation, Navigational aids have it, mostly really old NDB's when the pilots meter goes from "to" to "from". TACAN's (compass radials emitted, but over the NAVAID gets the cone)have it to a lessor degree across country. Sometimes also referred to as the Cone of confusion.

Serialized from 1963 thru 1964 in analog.

thanks that was instructing
I always thought it did sound(lol)llike an engineer's expression, and Dune's language being so rooted in the past it did look like something Frank would have picked up as a concept and developped into a device

I also thought this waas the cone of confusion though:

would be funny with one of those!
