Open Letter to Dunenovels Admin

Doonnovels Admin Freakin Meow wrote:Sometimes I feel like I'm back in grade school and on the playground: "I've got more friends that you! Nah-nah-nah!" Please guys and gals, lets stick to the core of these things. We all love Dune. It's why we're here. Some love all the books, some don't. Wow. Shocking.

I've always said that this will be the place where Dune fans (ALL DUNE FANS) can come and express their opinions on Dune as long as it didn't insult/attack the authors, the Herbert family, or other users. Some people just never get that. It's okay to disagree. It's not okay to (openly or covertly) attack others. There are message boards where attacks seem welcome, but not here.

A bit higher standard, please.

Thanks.
Dear Mr. Merrit,

Higher standard?

The "more friends" approach was the spearhead of the HLP's defense. Funny how that suddenly gets mocked when the argument is turned on you.

But I do agree, lets stick to the core of things because some people just never get it. The core argument that everything else revolves around is we feel deceived. If we feel deceived, then we are the ones insulted first. The burden of proof is on you. Rather than hiding behind copyrights.

(At least Kevin admitted he was targeting his Star Wars fanboys)

If you can understand this, then perhaps you can finally understand how claiming "all opinions are equal" and "let's not have any negativity" after the initial insult sounds cowardly.

Which is why I will always challenge you on these points.

A bit higher standard, please.

Thanks

PS If we are so wrong, then with all the hundreds and thousands of pages of notes, surely it would have been a simple matter to publish in some format a couple sample pages. The OH movement could have been derailed at any time before gathering steam. Instead, after over 10 years, not one single page...not one. Rather, the HLP's fundamental stance is "we claim the 5th amendment least we incriminate ourselves." Meanwhile, any unfriendly comment is whitewashed like you did in your above comment. "All opinions are equal or some like all the books and others don't."(Notice what was slipped in was the books are all equal or canon). This isn't the approach of someone operating from a moral high ground, but someone with something to hide.

"I've always said that this will be the place where Dune fans (ALL DUNE FANS) can come and express their opinions on Dune as long as it didn't insult/attack the authors, the Herbert family, or other users."

Byron:

1. First of all, eat a big plate of shit for all of your lying and petty bullshit over the years. Had to be said.

2. Second, your statement above is blatantly false — and you know it is. You can't be so stupid as to think you're actually holding everyone to the same standard over there, can you? Wow ... please tell me that's not the case.

In a nutshell, Byron, you can't equate legitimate criticism of the books/authors with "attacks" and then call your site an open forum. That might work for your slobbering fanboys over there; those of us with higher functions will see it as the bullshit it is.

Not everything is an attack, Byron:

1. "The new books suck my ass." <<-- attack;

2. "Kevin J. Anderson is a terrible author" << -- attack, although borderline acceptable, as it's simply a statement of fact

3. "I didn't like [McDune X] because of [Y, Z]" << -- NOT an attack, especially if the assertion is supported by examples.

Bottom line, Mr. Meow: until you understand #3, you will never have anything approaching an "ALL Dune fans" forum. You're light-years away right now.

Frankly, I'd suggest the site be administered by someone else.

I can't see how he expects anyone to take him seriously after something like that.

Like what? Telling us how good McDune is?

Granted, I find it hard to believe he can say that with a straight face, but I would have expected an admin of an official site to be a bit more professional. A kitty avatar and "Freaken Meow" do not mesh well with such concepts as professionalism.

Stargazer did not attack ElohimGhola. It's less of a higher standard than it is a double standard.

Yeah, a double standard. That's what the asshat accuses us of having/using.

And as far as professionalism at Dune Novels or within the HLP? That died with Frank Herbert.

Good point. But it's educational (and scary) when you think this is the guy who will probably be in charge of (what's left of?) Dune after Uncle BoBo kicks off his mortal coils. (By which I mean them there purdy perm coils on top of his noggin! :P )

(PROVIDED KJA doesn't wrestle complete control of the franchise away from the family, I mean. ;) )

Well, after reading that Alien Roads thread, I must admit it's a terrifying thought to see him in control of the Dune property.

Byron doesn't have it in him. After these two idiots give up the ghost the most we'll see out of Byron is stuff like Song of Muad'dib, Notebook of Dune, and other random BS that just adds to the pile of Dune shit one can collect, not real novels.
