The Litany Against Fear

Let’s digg into the history before the era of the first Dune novel:

“I have no fear, for fear is the little death that kills me over and over. Without fear, I die but once!”

- ancient form of the Litany Against Fear from The City of Introspection monastic retreat outside of Zimia (before the Butlerian Jihad.)

In my honest opinion, this is THE most comprehensive of them, very concise and full of wisdom. Try to recite it yourself. It focuses your mind and frees you of any fears indeed. You feel a new drive inside you and a wave of confidence rising and bursting to surface your consciousness.

Well, first of all Frank Herbert’s Dune Novel and subsequent trilogies in the Duniverse is undoubtedly one of the most amazing science fiction literature pieces of work ever written. How other could I describe it? Hey, it would be sin just to own this book and not plan its time in the spotlight. It is daredevil amazing.

There is a lot of action, there are a lot of dialogs… but those pieces of thinking diamonds hidden between the books covers… that is something I will always remember.

His other stories come more at the end of top 10 lists than this one, yet the gem of every sci fi fan’s top 10 list is one with Dune and a plan for one to read it ten times or more.

I managed to get a hold of the complete saga and started to read them properly, from the first one to the last in…less than six days I believe!!!

any of the McDune Product currently available at supermarket
checkout bins, bus station bathrooms, dumpsters behind Barnes

You missed this "version" of the Litany because Frank didn't
write it - uberHack KEVIN J. ANDERSON (StarWars & X-Files
franchise exploitation Tween paperbacks, a couple of extremely
silly little books based on DC Comics characters, a failure of
an "original" sci-fi series of books (with every idea lifted
straight from a string of real books by actual writers) which
was mysteryiously "wrapped up" about three or four books
short of what Kevin had been crowing about, a painfully
silly book about children on a moonbase, which is actually
a travesty considering is being sold (given away) at the
new NASA-sponsered Challenger Centers (call your congress-
person) did ...

well, no, KEVIN J. ANDERSON can't be bothered to physically
write anything these days, or atleast he can't say so, because
he's tied to his Industry Gimmick of "dictating Perfect Prose"

on straight usage of the English Language, it's clear
(to me) who was an actual author, thinker, poet, and
who is the out-of-breath babbling Pretender staggering
back to his Camry from the summit's snackbar ...

also, without the hyphen, Kevin's missed the subtle play
on "le petite mort" ... but that's really nit-picking,
consider the huge, basic things in Frank's Dune that
Kevin missed, or didn't understand, or never read
(God-emperor of Dune?)

most likely, some one else will come along and point that
not only does the quote read like nothing Frank would ever
even scratch on the back of a placemat in a pizza joint
(but guess who wrote a whole Young Jedi Knight Novel that
way?) this quote is almost a complete upending of the
meaning of the Litany.

this is KEVIN J. ANDERSON's biggest failure as a "writer" -
he forgets that words mean things ...
