London Tattoo Convention 2010
It's pretty close to where I live(about half an hour)by tube /train, and as I've never been to a tattoo convention I thought for a first this one would be the one to see.

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
not sure, I'm considering it, it depends on what I find there.
I have a project to do something along those lines
so I'm counting on this convention to find the guy/girl whose style fits it best, and who'll be happy to work on it.
maybe get a piercing done, haven't decided yet

Nice, Warlock was one of my favorite New Mutants! Nice choice.
I've got his action figure somewhere.

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
you have no idea how good it feels not to have to explain who Warlock is(maybe you do though)
all that technarchy stuff, biomechanic metamorph; plenty of techno related concepts...
I am not sure if I want to have Warlock as a character or just reproduce his trademark skin on my own(my skin is not...)
The more I think of it the more I incline(inkline)towards the latter.
We'll see if that guy likes what I bring and if I can afford whatever comes out of his drawing board!

That's strange. It still shows up as the action figure on my page. I guess the guy who posted that is some kind of prick or something.lotek wrote:ow and

yeah his stuff is amazing, I've never seen anything like it(on people). It looks like these old handmade flyers we used to make for our parties.inhuien wrote:There's some very fine ink on that site, lotek, did you look at Tomas Tomas?
That studio Into You has some talent available!
But MrX's drawing really caught my eye, and I know I'll only work with someone who feels challenged by my ideas; and will enjoy delivering what I have in my mind on paper and skin(that was pompous I know, but then again we're talking permanent body modification here, not a new pair of trainers )

yeah I see what you mean, it's just that his style seems a bit too far off what I am trying to do, unfortunately...
Still it is just perfect work, being able to reproduce this on an arm, taking into account the tubular shape is quite a feat!

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
gonna try to meet with him some time this week, I just need to colour print out as much Warlock stuff I can lay my hands on first
I'd like to get there with most of the job on my side done, so he can do his thing and turn my random thoughts into a graphic representation.
I know it's kind of corny, but I do believe tattoists are real artists(it's just that every tattoo doesn't need to be that deep or can dig deeper)
I could put someone's mood into music if I was given some leads, so I guess even though I don't fully understand the medium in tattoo, that same thing is possible to the one who speaks that language
Mystic Meg Mode off

Cool, what's your budget and how's your pain threshold?

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
budget is not the issue, not that it is illimited but it could cost a lot and still be worth it.
Plus the more expensive means the more time spent on it, making it easy to pay for the work done during each session.
As for my pain treshold, I don't mind pain as long as I decided I was going through it(funny enough the image of Paul with the hand in the godamn box of pain stuck with me every time)
The longest I did was three hours, when my friend did my forearm tattoos(3hrs each but they need another pass). To give you an idea of how I react to pain, imagine that on one of the arms we did it on a saturday morning, and I was so tired I was falling asleep while my friend was working...
And I find it helps to remember that that pain is part of the process, I see the tattoo as the visual mark of that pain, like an echo in the nerve system(yeah I know I read too much Dune)
But I get carried away!
And the convention was amazing!

nope
But it feels like the first time every time, the feeling you get when the drawing pours out through blood and ink is quite addictive!

Every time I go for ink I think I'm a tough guy, then 3 4 or 5 hours later I'm telling myself I'm never getting tattoo'd again. Of course, 3 weeks later I reverse that decision...

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
it's funny I work the other way round, when I'm having one done I'm already imagining and anticipating the next one
I have a friend who once had two tattoists working at the same time on each of his arms, and I've stayed once with him during a session that lasted more than 7 hours!
Crazy dude but he earned the tattoists' respect with that, I've seen them go out of their way to accomodate him when they didn't have to.

Re: London Tattoo Convention 2010
One arm was almost painless for me, then the other one I had a really rough artist and it hurt like hell. Stomach hurt about medium, but chest is where I almost couldn't handle it, and where I did my longest session which was 5 hours. The chest is seriously hell.
It's funny too, some people find the ditch hurts more than the elbow, but I found that to be the opposite.
