Re: My God, I`ve Arrived Home!
Hey, DUNEedain. Good to see another Dune fan out there. I have a feeling you won't waste too much time hating on KJA, and will spend more time discussing FH's Dune. Good, man, we need more people like you! (Not that I don't enjoy tweaking KJA every once in a while. I am planning on going to a book signing if he ever comes to the East Coast, that is, and filming our encounter. People tell me I am an incredibly annoying sixteen year old kid, so this will come to my advantage in informing KJA about the quality of his books)

I'm still very proud of The Quarry but … let's face it; in the end the real best way to sign off would have been with a great big rollicking Culture novel.

Hi to Randy, new post to avoid thread proliferation + two ?s
Randy seems keen, good to see.
To avoid making my own 'welcome to me' thread, posting under the most recent one. Hope this is not a major breach of etiquette here.
Thanks to the moderators for help when I screwed up the sign up, not a newbie on BB systems but haven't logged in to a phpBB system before.
Read all of the real Dune novels, but don't recall much of Messiah (liked it but only read it twice) and Heretics (didn't like it so much but didn't feel any antagonism towards it). Have read Dune, Children, God Emperor, and Chapterhouse many times. Like many others, I'd give Heretics and Chapterhouse a lower rating than the others, but look forward to reading them again, it's been a long time for those and I'd probably get more from them now (and even more so, by re-reading Messiah).
I like the Lynch movie a lot, sure it takes liberties but there will never be a better one, one of the few happy side-effects of the made-on-Wall-Street economic disaster for us normal folk is the cancellation or postponement of so many Hollywood atrocities, particularly remakes that will crap on the originals, and neoDune was to have been among them. It will be made, but the current no-go state is a blessing to OH types. My guess would be that they will incorporate material from the interquels and tell people who don't like that 'Well, we already did that with the Sci-Fi channel shows' (which also had their good and bad points).
Looked at the McDunalds novels in bookshops for a few years before I read one, they looked pretty dodgy. I think my first was House Atreides. Reading it, I couldn't help thinking that Frank Herbert could not possibly have been involved, even as background.
Found this BB after reading two of the robot monster 'novels', decided I couldn't read any more of K&B's crap, so read synopses instead. Think it was a post from Sandchigger that led me here.
Nice site. Is there a deadline for the 2011 parody thing? Is it OK to handle posting on that as a series (part I, part II, etc. it won't go past part VI I think)?

Achlan wasachlan!
The deadline for the current parody contest is one second before midnight (23:59:59), February 28 (the midnight between February 28 and March 1), GMT.
It's currently Tuesday, 22 February 2011, 14:08:15, so you've got a little under 6 days and 10 hours.

Seriously? Might have been a good idea to put that at the top of the thread if so, tried to find info. but there was none. Written about a quarter. Some OK laughs IMHO. 6 days possibly impossible.

Um... search the board for "Parody Contest"?
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2635&hilit=Parody+Contest" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also: http://www.google.com/search?client=saf ... 8&oe=UTF-8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Granted, there should have been stickied announcements in the contest forum, like we did for the fanfic contest, but it's not like the information couldn't be found.
