Has anyone else hit on the idea that the Litany against Fear is actually a very good mantra for controlling one's frame of mind? I find it useful as a way of getting on top of situations where I am afraid wishful thinking has set me up for a wipe-out.
I must not delude myself.
Self-delusion is the mind-killer.
Self-delusion is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my self-delusion.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the self-delusion has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.
After I've recited that to myself a few dozen times, I find I have some much-needed perspective again.
