Newly registered, but I've been following threads here, for a time

Hello everyone, jardindegivre here, newly registered!

I am what we may call a true Frank Herbert purist. I've tried reading the KJA end BH stuff but it left me with a sensation akin to being sick by a bad booze. As for the David Lynch film, that's what brought me to the books in the first place. I find the movie very beautiful and faithful to the materiel, except for the raining part at the end. The art direction is exemplary and the acting is so visceral!

As for the books themselves, I do believe Dune and God Emperor of Dune are masterpieces of literature in their own right. They explore the relationship between power and religion as tools of state rather elegantly. God Emperor has the dangerous proposition to look into the psyche of a near-omnipotent, dehumanized leader which is profound and touching.

The last two books are so fast-paced compared to the rest of the series! I like them both, but am overwhelmed each time I read them! It's unfortunate the seventh book was never made...

That's it for now!

Cheers!

Hello! And I agree about the Lynch film. Even though I've heard him say he hates it and that it's a failure, I've always thought it was awesome, and most especially as you say with art design and acting. Lynch can get more out of actors than almost anyone, even though ultimately the material wasn't his and he couldn't make it his.

Fortunately I read the book before the movie. I thought it was great visually. That's the nicest thing I can say. :puke:
