Okay, these are very rough, figuring each month at 30 days. Also, our stats would be even higher if I included T(A)U, but I wanted to give DN a fighting chance.

DN being 27 months old, and Jacurutu being 7 months old. Here are some averages:

DN = 54.40 Posts per Day

Jacurutu = 95.24 Posts per Day

DN has 979 members, Jacurutu has 160. Obviously this is even looser than the last numbers due to not everyone having been here the same amount of time. Average posts per member:

DN = 44.94

Jacurutu = 125

In conclusion: we post almost twice as much per day, and well over twice as much per member, damn near three times as much actually. Also I think anyone who's seen the level of activity on the DN "off-topic" section compared to Jacurutu's has a pretty good idea of what % of the site's posts are on or off topic.

Update time! Another 4 Months have passed, so it’s time for another update.


DN is 39 months old, and Jacurutu is 19 months old. Here are the totals:

Jacurutu total:
Posts: 61766
Members: 244

DN Total:
Posts: 49572
Members: 1225

Here are some averages (rough figures of course):

DN = 42.37 Posts per Day (down 4 since my last comparison, down 12 since my first comparison)

Jacurutu = 108.36 Posts per Day (roughly the same as last comparison, up 13 since first comparison)


Average posts per member:

DN = 40.46 (down 1 since last time)

Jacurutu = 253.14 (up 20 since last time)


Now, for the real fun, remember that since they are so much older than us that their averages are much more stable than ours.

The last 4 months:

Jacurutu total posts = 12776
Jacurutu total posts per day = 121.68 (down 2 from last check)

DN total posts = 1205
DN total posts per day = 11.47 (up a fraction of a post per day)

So we've had 10 X as many posts as them in the last 4 months (last check we had 11 X as many).

What a total embarrassment for the alleged "official" Dune forums.

I know Byron Merritt scored some points for apparently being semi-human at DragonCon, but I don't really care: I say he's still a complete asshole for doing everything in his power to ruin what should easily be the most active Dune forums on the interwebs.

If we could get our search engine presence up to at least second place behind DN I think it would really be the final nail in their coffin - right now the main thing keeping them running is the fact that they are the most visible Dune forum on the net. Jacurutu IS the main internet Dune forum, but it's also one of the most difficult to stumble across now that we don't have piles of people at DN inviting people and linking.

Maybe I should set up another sock puppet over there for no purpose other than PM'ing people with jacurutu invitations.
