Bah, humbug.
It's Xmas Eve and I have to do two classes today. (Plus a bunch of PITA paperwork. And it's cold and my manboob nipples hurt....)

My, my, but ain't they wholesome?
Reminds me ... that I found Jesus in the arms of a milkin' maid once long ago.
Yelled, "Jesus Christ! What are you doing to my cousin?!"
He jumped up and grabbed his robes and crown and ran outa there faster 'n you could say licky-the-split.
Good thang it wadn't my uncle what found 'em. He woulda took 'is shotgun and give 'im some new holes to match them in 'is hands 'n' feet!

Um...Hirohito, the Showa Emperor, has been dead about what, 20 years now?
That's right, it's currently the 20th year of the Heisei Period, which began on January 7, 1989. (The first 6 days of that year are the 64th year of Showa. I came over here in October of Showa 62. The transition was an interesting time, with all the ceremonies and that sort of thing.)
The current emperor is Akihito, now 75.
(It's kind of a neat PITA having to deal with two systems like this. On some documents you have to give the traditional date, although most things are slowly switching over. )

I played the demo but it was just like the store bought version. Actually, I have Sid Meier's Civil War Collection which included Gettysburg!, Antietam! and a South Mountain add-on battle.SandRider wrote:not a bad game, but did you ever get ahold of the demo ?Freakzilla wrote:I like to get stoned and lead the Army of Northern Virginia to victory in Sid Meier's Antietam! totally turn-based, more strategy-type. I guess that version
got canned - by the time it was released, it was a completely
different game.
I've been playing the GS Gettysburg for like three years now.
RTS games are too damn chaotic for me; I like to sit around, drink,
and think about it alot.
{Thanks Nekkie ! Happy Birthday, Jesus, everyone !}
The SM Gettysburg was pretty much an earlier game engine and you had to fight either one part of the battle do a campaign in order with movies between. I didn't like the campaigns.
In Antietam you can choose to fight the whole battle at once, which is increadibly difficult and what I like to do. Another option is an Aggressive Confederate variant where nothing is held in reserve, which I really like. You start with Burnsides Bridge covered, if I can hold that and push the Yankees back to the Middle bridge It's a matter of repulsing Hooker's advance from the North Woods, across Miller's Conrnfield, defending Dunker Church.
Sitting in that sunken "Bloody Lane" waiting for their attack is suicide.
It's pretty easy to add your own custom artwork for the individual units and flags, too, which I have a lot of fun with.

no, I'm telling you, maybe 5 or more years before the Antietam game your talking about was released, there was a demo that was TOTALLY
different, just one little part, buried on one of those CDs that came with
MaxPC or PC Gamer or something. I loved that effing demo, played the
hell out of that little bitty bit. Then the game went different.
the Gettysburg game I'm playing all the time is from GS (Global Software)
2005.
{and by the way, Son of the South, and you may know this, but to us,
"Antietam" is "Sharpsburg" (in the same way "Bull Run" is "Manassass")}

My dad and I visited a lot of Civil War battlefields when I was younger, and Antietam was my favorite. The whole place is sort of spooky.
I'll never forget the guide saying it was "the single bloodiest day in U.S. history." That stuck with me.

The neighborhood I grew up in butts up next to Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield and I spent enourmous amounts of time there as a kid.

ha ! beat you to you !
I was actually expecting you to point out that the 23,000+ figure
is really over the 3 day engagment Sept 16-18, '62, however the
vast, vast majority occured on the 17th.
in the flame war over on HA, when Fantomas tried to attack me with
pointless copy-and-paste stuff from the War, Chanilover and I got into
a side discussion about the War, and Southern People, and etc.
Luv suggested a thread over here, seemed interested in my point of view,
which is not conventional. Any interest ?
